    Back to the dizzy people

My neuro told me my dizziness was "vestibular" a problem of the central nervous system.

I was wondering if those of you who get dizzy often find that it is different from time to time. Some days it's worse or makes me feel a little faint. Can dizziness change like this because we have MS? Sometimes just putting on my glasses starts things feeling woozy. Other days I don't notice it. But most of the time I do feel the dizzies at one time or another during the day.

I'm sorry to keep bringing this up. It just seems like the doctors just say "oh well, nothing we can do about it". It's such a strange symptom and has gotten worse over the years (for me). It's a tough one to deal with.

I'd love to hear some of your dizzy stories.

Marti: My MS specialist told me the only thing that can be done for CNS dizziness is Valium. I take it once or twice per day. It really helps. If it doesn't cure the dizziness at least it makes it more tolerable. I have it everyday. I also have nausea with it and take Compazine for that. The combination helps me get through the day. Ask your neurologist about this combination. You don't need much valium.

I do have varying dizziness. Mostly vertigo. But, I do have some faintness too. That is more from a lesion on my tenth cranial nerve. Both are from that lesion.

I hope you start feeling better. Ask about Valium. Sometimes baclofen will help, but not as much as the Valium.

    Good luck

I doubt that I could talk her into Valium since I'm already taking Xanax and Klonapin. Is your dizziness considered "vestibular"? I'd like to know more about this. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes mine is. Mostly due to a cranial nerve injury from a lesion that affects my IX, X, VI, and VIII cranial nerves. It is in my brainstem at a medullary junction. They might consider a 2mg dose prn (as needed.) You may have to decrease the dose of one of the other meds. Or, you may not. It is worth asking about.

Vestibular can mean inner ear, or inner brain from inner ear. Mine is inner brain from inner ear. The VIII nerve was damaged with the pontine lesion above so the vertigo is due to that and my eye movements too. They don't work together.

Just ask about it, see what happens.
        Take care

          From one dizzy to another

          Hi Marti,
I suffer from dizziness like you, on and off, since 2011.
I had a rough patch for about 2 months when it all started, then over a period of 6 months it got better. Now, the last few months it has been a little worse on and off. At home I notice it the least. At work and shopping, probably due to the lighting can be the worst. I have not gone the route of any meds yet, but may discuss this with my neuro at my next visit. I also have only partial vision in my rt eye due to optic nerve damage which I am sure does not help my body keep its signals straight. What fun!
Really can get me down some days. Outside appearances we look ok, hard to explain to people what we are experiencing. Jackie

            Marti,

I have had dizziness to some extent since my early 20's. It was then that I first had a bad bout vertigo and my neuro believes the MS started, although no diagnosis was made. I recently had another bad case of vertigo and the solumedrol really helped calm it.

Vertigo is a little different than dizziness.

The dizziness varies from day to day. I describe it as one day I feel like I've had 1 drink, while other days I feel like I've had 6.

I have not been told it is vestibular. My neuro has just said that it's can't really be controlled.

I may ask about Valium. The thought of taking Valium scares me a little though.
