    Interesting article

    Hello,
I just read an interesting article about MS attacking the gray matter first:MS May Take a Different Pathway Than Previously Thought

My first MRI showed many lesions close to gray matter. At that time, my doctor and current research said they were in the wrong spot. I did have other ones in the white matter though. I hope you enjoy the article.

The meninges too, huh? That would explain the headaches.
I do not have MS. I have Whatchamacallit; and all of the symptoms are mirages.

That might explain some of the headaches. It doesn't explain, for example, why migraines are more common in people with MS than in the general population. Migraine is a different phenomenon than meningitis.

Lol. Yes. You are correct. I should have been more specific. You can't fix that with a spell check, though. It takes a slap upside the head.

just from reading some articles on it today--it raises the possibility that ms doesn't work from the inside-out but from the outside-in. Just another variation of ms?

i bet some do have ms working from the outside-in and they are the ones that are told they have lesions but not in the right place for ms--so they have to wait for their ms to progress until it gets to the inside. but some have it working from the inside-out. and some have ms start in the spine

          just another variation of ms????

My MS specialist noted significant Grey Matter deterioration on my MRI's. He said it is very relevant to my MS (I have white matter lesions as well).

I also read a study on grey matter deterioration as it relates to MS. It was written by an MS specialist in Colorado. I cannot remember the name of the article though. You can google grey matter deterioration in MS and get several hits.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and that way you have all your bases covered.

OK so you got me thinking and i did a little research and found a really interesting article on gray matter deterioration. Some scientists were studying its relations to disability and to cause in MS patients. This study was done in 2003 and presented at the annual ANA in San Francisco. It reported that high levels of iron were present in gray matter of subjects. This also happens in Parkinsons and other diseases.

It is suggestive that MS patients have defective blood-brain barriers, the cell layer that prevents potentially toxic substances from entering the brain. It goes on to say that that hypointensity in the deep gray matter is a strong predictor of disability, progression of the disease and subsequent brain atrophy in MS.

Here is the thing though; its from 2003. Has it been refuted? I don't know. Thoughts?
