Jo Franz did not let MS stop her from living and loving. Her faith in God led her through a painful divorce, acceptance of her disease and how to cope with it, losing her singing voice and the chance to love again.

Her Christianity is foremost in all her actions and decisions, although she still agonizes over the "whys" like most people do.

She has gone on to become a motivational speaker and a spokesperson for the National MS Society. She let her MS become a witness for her faith and how she lives her life with a positive perspective.

I learned about this book from the parents of a young woman who has MS. Karen Bernhardt of Vancouver, WA wrote:

"I am the mother of a precious daughter diagnosed with MS at age 26. I met Jo Franz about the same time and heard her share a most inspirational message on her faith in God, and how it has helped her live with debilitating MS for many years.  Jo writes in her book so openly of her challenges with Multiple Sclerosis and its impact on her life, her family and her mobility.  She shares her innermost thoughts, as she struggles each day with this disease and yet allows God’s grace to faithfully lead her moment by moment.  She never gives up!

"People with MS often face many other difficulties and Jo does not shy away from these.  Jo’s book tells about various issues and struggles she has dealt with while continuing to live with MS.  It is a vulnerable journey that inspires everyone and touches people from all walks of life, some with other illnesses and others with no illness.  She has been a real encouragement to me, as a mother who dearly loves her daughter and wants to continue to encourage and give hope to her daughter."

Her writing style is not the easiest for me to read with some conversations that could have been omitted for their rather unremarkable value. But we each have our own way of telling our story.

I'm sure her ministry is one that reaches many people and gives MS a more positive spin so others won't be afraid to talk with us about how it affects our lives.

Thus, her title to Soar Unafraid. We all need to be reminded that our lives can be made less fearful if we realize God is in control. And if you don't believe this, maybe you will rethink your opinion.

We all need to keep growing and learning so we can live our lives unafraid.
