For many years, it was slim pickings for books written for MS patients. Today we have a deluge of material that can seem overwhelming, at first look. Just when I think no other resource books will give me new information, I am proven wrong.
This book will stay at the front bookcase of resource books. The list of contributors is long and impressive. The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) published a book with the same title in 1998. Research and findings have soared since that date and this book fills in the blanks to include all the new information learned since 1998.
This book covers a wide spectrum of material including Managing the disease process and its symptoms, Health, lifestyles, and emotional issues, In the community, Life planning and an appendix with resources for people with MS.
People who have MS want to stay independent as possible. As we say on MSWorld, "Knowledge is Power." The more we learn as our MS goes through it unique stages in our lives, the better prepared we are to cope and make healthy decisions. This book provides the reader with the knowledge to do just that. The writing style is positive and problem solving in nature.
I can easily imagine PVA and Demos being compelled to write another update in about another eight years - or sooner.
I will want to read that book as well.
Without hesitation, I recommend this resource book to be read and referred to often.
