"Graduate School"

by Jaclyn Henderson, aka JackieLani

Applications to eight,
rejected from all,
forlorn and forgotten
I go to the mall.

There I see youngsters
of Nancy Drew fame.
or I'm just remembering
"What's in a name..."

But the talent I have
was endowed from my dad:
a famous composer
who died, oh so sad.

So I am endowed
with his talent to write,
but nobody cares what I do
in this life.

I've given it up!
Or I thought so, but now
I'm still writing, so what
is this talent anyhow?

Who cares about pens
or learning the ropes?
I seems with M.S.
it's best to read jokes.

Hey, that's a thought
that I never have had.
I'll write books of jokes
and not become sad!

Like: What goes ha, ha, thump?
Laugh and you'll see
your head coming off
for the graduate degree!
