"A Bit of Snow"

by Thomas M. Burgess
March '08

Getting to be spring again,
my heart has been ready

Forced closed for a season

Breaking out, the sooner the better

Still, there is a bit of snow

When the shadows get longer,
it still gets very cold

Inside, feelings too hurtful,

Needing a place where the snow can’t find me

Looking at it all,
never finding a practical thought

Trying to create a warmth

Never seeming to get out in front of it

Complications,
they are endless

Never allowing for a satisfactory rest

It’s snowing so hard
