Maria
by Randall Young aka maxx
Our dog's name is Maria. She came to us when she was two years old. The previous owner couldn't keep her out of the chicken coop. My wife bought goat milk from the owner. She saw Maria and remarked what a pretty color Maria was and said she had always wanted a dog that color. The owner says, "You want her?" Glenna says "Yes," thinking the owner was joking!
Nothing else was said.

The next day was Saturday and there at the door was Glenna's friend with this gorgeous looking dog with a bow in each ear and big brown eyes that were immediately appealing.
When Glenna saw her at the farm she said she was scroungy looking but had a beautiful color. The owner had bathed her, brushed her hair and tied a bow just above each ear.
I was shocked and so was Glenna, thinking it was a joke when she was at the farm.
In no way had I been thinking about a dog. I resisted the idea strongly, and Glenna said "OK, we will keep her over the weekend and give her to my mom who wants a dog."
That evening Maria comes up to my lounge chair, jumps up and lays down beside me and begins to survey the den as if she lived there for years. Looks up at me and says in her special way, "You're not making me leave, are you?"
Needless to say, she won me over then and there!
Maria had four litters, and raised and nursed an orphaned baby kitten as a part of the fourth litter. My brother is a veterinarian and said that is not all that uncommon in the animal kingdom.
