Kathleen Wilson MFA, MA Founding President & CEO
My name is Kathleen (Kat) and I have been with MSWorld from its very first day. I was diagnosed with MS in 1988. I have had only two major attacks in all of this time and a small set back in the summer of 2001. I enjoyed an eight-year remission that came to an abrupt end in 1995, while living in Athens, Greece. I ignored the symptoms, waited for "them" to go away and "they" didn't. Reluctant to leave my artist's life behind, I flew home, was soon in need of a wheelchair and it has been a slow but rewarding climb back to mobility and gradual strengthening.
Because of this experience, I went in search of an MS support group on-line. I was too fatigued to go to real meetings and frankly it just didn't feel right for me. I soon stumbled into a chronic illness support group, liked the format and asked if there was a room like that for MS. I was told no, but asked if I might like to start one. Those were the magic words, I leapt at the opportunity, learned what I needed to learn and within two months, MSWorld began.
I needed a room that was positive, hopeful, informative and fun! Each host has their own story to tell about becoming involved with MSWorld. Reflecting back on all that has happened, I am most certain that this is a project helped by some kind of divine intervention. This is by far the most rewarding endeavor of my life and as I give I receive ten-fold. Each day is filled with thanks. MSWorld is a growing community of caring and wonderful individuals; it is such a privilege to be part of it all.
I hold two Master's degrees–one in Fine Art and the other in Mental Health Counseling. I am working towards adapting my methods for creating art to suit my new person. Art is what I know best and what I hope to continue in a serious way again. I work with a personal trainer and watch what I eat, maintaining the best health that I possibly can.
Living with MS is a challenge and a teacher. I have learned much about living from this disease and with new treatments on the horizon, I remain hopeful for the day that all of us coping with MS will find relief. Welcome to MSWorld where Wellness is a State of Mind.
