Hi all. My name is Janet. I consider it a great honor to be available to help anyone and everyone who needs answers to this very perplexing and ever-nasty disease that we live with every day. I hope I'm up to the challenge!

I contracted MS in 1979. I was 22 years old, pregnant, and had just dropped out of college with one year left to go. Not the best situation to be in when someone gives you the news that you have an incurable disease. Therefore, I ignored the doctors. (I'm good at that!). I'm a Philly girl, born and bred, and we have some of the best medical centers in the country right here in Philadelphia. It wasn't that I couldn't get some help — I just chose not to! Anyway, by 1993 I could no longer ignore the fact that I was sick.

It's been a real thrill ride for the past 23 years, but I'm among the fortunate group of people who have progressed very slowly and don't have an enormous amount of disability. I'd have to say that the one thing that MS took from me that really significantly changed my life was my dancing. I danced from the time I was a child, and because of my now non-existent balance, I can no longer do that. It hurt for a very long time, but like everything else with this disease, you get used to it because you have no other choice. And then I realized something life-changing in and of itself — that I am so much more than my body!

I hope I can be helpful, in one way or another, to each and every person who comes to the MSWorld message board. Let the games begin!

Janet
