MS, Among Other Things
by Paul M. McLaughlin
My name is Paul M. McLaughlin and I graduated from Donora, Pennsylvania High School at the age of 21 – SPECIAL EDUCATION –and cheated on the written test to get into the Army so that I could be safe from being severely abused by my mother. My twin sister graduated at the age of 18 and she ran away from home (passed away on August 27, 2007 at age 59). I had to get away from my abuser. My older brother and sister were NOT abused at all. YES, I was jealous of them. WILL NOT SAY WHAT KIND OF ABUSE. The SCARS on my face, body, scalp, tells of my story.
In 1975, I took ill with epilepsy and was given Dilantin and Inderal. I've been told that Dilantin is a dangerous drug to use and it will cause some form of harm – I have no idea what that will be.
In 1975, I created a ONE-MAN campaign on child abuse and traveled over 20,000 miles across the U.S. with open forums, radio talk programs and TWO television commercials to help raise funds for abused children. My story will continue in the year of 2047, when a TIME CAPSULE containing my story will be revealed again to help people and children
who led the kind of life I did for 21 years.
In 2001, I took ill with MS. I was on vacation and during the late hours of night, I woke up and had some pain in my brain area. I say brain area because I have no idea what was happening. My wife, Elizabeth Seven McLaughlin, and I made an emergency trip back home to Eugene, Oregon, to the Sacred Heart Hospital.
At the hospital, five doctors looked at me and I had spots all over my body. I was told that I had chicken pox. One doctor said that I had MS. I was sent to the hospital for one week. Tubes placed inside my hand turned different colors and had to be removed and placed on top of the arm area so medication could be pumped inside me. I have no idea what medication it was.
Then I was transfered to a rehabilitation program to re-learn to walk, speak and get my vision back, and other ugly illness that goes with MS.
I was told there is no medication for the MS I have. The doctors said they have to wait
for another relapse of my illness
to find out what kind of MS I have.
I HAD NO IDEA THAT THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE OTHER KINDS OF MS ILLNESS.
It's sad and crazy.
I had never of heard such problems beforehand.
