Dear Karri and all the others like her,

I have had MS for almost 30 years and have gone through fighting to walk without any help to walking with 1 cane and then 2 canes and then a walker. At that point I decided that I would get the best aids that I could find so that I could maintain as much of my life as possible.

I now keep a manual wheelchair in my office for trips to other buildings. I have 3 walkers: one that is light that I can put in my car and use in town or
in the house, one that is very heavy that I use to feed my horses and a medium one that I use outside around the house. I also have an electric wheelchair that I use to negotiate the hill to get to my barn and
hay shed.

And yes, I have been able to hold on to many parts of my life with the help of these appliances. I strongly recommend that you get and use a cane before you have a fall and break something. And when it is time for a walker, don't dally around; get one that lets you do the things that you want to do.

Pride is only a hindrance and will lead you to hurting yourself. I find that most people are very understanding. Good luck to you all!!!

sincerely,
Anne Rusoff
