"Life on Cripple Creek"
by Dean Kramer
I was born in 1951 and diagnosed with MS in 1984. I spent the first ten years after diagnosis in almost complete denial, attributing the occasional ‘problems’ to almost anything beside MS. In 1997 my symptoms were suddenly worse. I decided to take my head out of the sand and begin looking for information and resources. One of the resources was the gift of a computer in 1998 and the following year I found MSWorld. It was like coming home! I felt welcomed and responded-to by folks who really knew what living with MS was like.
I began to participate in a couple of the chats and wanted very much to make a contribution of some sort. It was suggested that I read and review books for the library, an ideal situation for me as I love reading and writing. Later I began co-hosting a chat. Presently I contribute a monthly essay, "Life on Cripple Creek". I also edit the weekly "MSWorld Express and Chat Schedule". I’m a member of the Management Team, and the Guest Speaker Team Leader.
I work part-time as a graphic designer for a spice company and I do design and writing for a few other clients as well.
My home is in Pennsylvania on a farm in a small house I designed myself. I share this space with my partner, two large black dogs, and a small white terrier I’m training as a service dog. I am able, so far, to live independently using assistive devices when necessary.
In addition to reading and writing and design, I enjoy swimming, nature-study, travel and just hangin' out. I'm very interested in technology for the disabled and love experimenting with all sorts of helpful equipment.
I am delighted to be an active part of MSWorld. This is such a great group.
