"Coffee Colored"

by Thomas M. Burgess

Coffee colored conversations

Always muddy as they come to their end.

Never meaning what has been said,

never quite saying what is meant.

We find them to spill over into our lives,

no matter the level of care that has been taken

Just like rings formed from a coffee cup,

the conversations look to go full circle.

They are never completely cleaned up,

always available to mix with

any and all other events.

No matter how we sweeten with good intentions or just left bare and plain.

They always are ready to reveal in a way

what makes them all feel the same

Muddy as they come to the end.
