"Burn"
by Thomas M. Burgess

Standing a little too close, still I can't tell it's you,

Standing a little too close, to live in your version,

Standing a little too close, I cant hear any cries,

Burned out, the shell is only left,

Has it burned itself out yet?

You can't burn me again,

Standing a little too close, can't see my way clear,

Standing a little too close, can't take the heat,

Standing a little too close, I smell only the smoke,

Standing a little too close, can't trust anymore,

Burned out, the shell is only left,

Has it burned itself out yet?

You can't burn me again,

Standing a little too close, still can't get near,

Standing a little too close, not sure what to do?

Standing a little too close, drawn to the flame,

Standing a little too close, hanging on for a better time,

You can't burn me again.
