"Autumn Comes Stealing"

by Thomas M. Burgess

October 1982

Briskly, here she comes stealing,

skies covered gray.

The warmth of the sun is fading,

brilliant colors wash away in the rain.

The Autumn days have grown shorter now,

retreat, oh how they must.

For the cooling frost has fallen heavy,

turning summer's dew to rust.

Autumn, she has comes stealing,

all things must come to rest.

Conforming to natures time table,

we must all withstand her loneliness.

We all know her loneliness.
