"Anatomy of Perspective"

by Monica Petter

As I shaved my legs this morning,
I noticed that I couldn’t really feel the razor.

A day in the life of a chronic illness.

Ironically,
I noticed that I hadn’t noticed.

It wasn’t in my nature –
Dwelling on the negative.

My wiring an oxymoron.

I watched a man inch his way
To a soda machine – his right side reluctant to cooperate.

He got the soda.
I cheered his spirit from the sidelines.

I realized we are the minority.

I watched a perfectly healthy woman
Drag her heavy attitude around a store bemoaning her life.

I couldn’t say a word.
It would be the corpse in Prada on her soap box.

I looked too healthy.

Diseased anatomy is quite difficult to watch –
Diseased perspective is impossible to understand –

The grim reaper in a tuxedo.

I don't get bad attitudes.... ~M
