"Alias" by Monica Petter
Sometimes the mask
Fits better
Than it feels.
It camouflages
Rather nicely
Circumstance.
Cutting the corners
Of my mouth
With it’s stoicism.
I prefer to smile.
For, who wants
To be plain normal
When you can be exceptional?
Stretching when it hurts
Reaching out of grasp
Dreaming in the darkness.
Realizing you can’t run away.
Accepting humbly,
Sharing, letting others
Read your soul.
Brave, courageous, cleansing.
The others
Just like you –
Losing the alias.
Coming home.
