"In Honor of Sheeba"

Sheeba--enjoying a catnap with her teddy bear friends

It is so hard to believe that our dear, sweet Sheeba is 13 years old. We adopted her when she was 6 weeks old and just a "handful of fur".  As with most domestic cats, she has her own unique personality. Sheeba is what is known as a "domestic tabby". She has stripes AND spots and the softest white fur "bib". The "bib" is appropriate, as she is always ready to eat.

She sits, regally, by my dining room chair, during meal time, with great confidence that Jack and I will "share" the meat with her. If I become distracted, during dinner conversation, she softly pats my arm with her front paw, to remind me that she is waiting for another bit of my meal.  When I am busy around the house, Sheeba will sometimes let me know, with a special meow, that I need to sit down, because she is having "lap withdrawal".

Her "playful" days are gone, due to her advanced age. But, she delights in sitting on the bay window sill. There, Sheeba has a grand view of the neighborhood. The birds, squirrels, and other outdoor creatures provide her with "Cat TV".

Sheeba has always been, strictly, an "indoor" cat. One winter, when we got an unusual snowfall, we introduced her to the "white stuff". She didn't like it much and tried to shake the cold snow off of all four paws at the same time.

When I sit down to watch TV, and want her to come to me, all I have to say is: "Where's Mommy's baby kitty?" Wherever she's napping, she will respond immediately and come jump up on my lap.
Sheeba is the most affectionate house cat that I've ever seen. What a wonder it is to have her as a member of our family. She has trained us well.
