Meet Julie, aka Jayjay

This photo was taken Christmas Eve, 1997
Think I was a dog magnet or something?

I live in Northern Alberta Canada with my husband and my two children, a daughter  and son. We live in a fairly remote town with a population of about 3,000. The nearest large centre in approximately two hours away by car. As I am still ambulatory, I enjoy cooking, needlework, painting, television, and the computer (of course!) I do not like shopping, cleaning, laundry and all those mundane tasks, but still manage to get them done even if I am slower that I used to be!!!!

I was diagnosed with Relapsing/Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in Oct/96 after experiencing symptoms for three years prior. I retired from my part-time job as coordinator of a local Community Education Council in Dec '96, where I used to organize non-credit courses for the community. I have been on Betaseron since about Feb/97 and feel that the treatment is proving successful. I try to manage living with MS with positive thinking, eating well and trying to avoid triggers such as getting overtired, etc.

We purchased some land out of town and are built a new stairless (MS friendly) home there. We were looking forward to having more space and experience rural living! My husband did a lot of the home construction! (I was foreman! he-he-he-he-he!) I have a pet Yorkshire Terrier named "Tido" and he is great company now that I am not working. Everyone in the family looked forward to "larger" pets on the farm.
