Meet Darlene, a/k/a SuziQ-31

Darlene_SuziQ.jpg

My name is Darlene Cable, aka SuziQ-31.  I am married to Bob. We have 2 beautiful children, a girl Jessica,  and a son, Charlie.

I was diagnosed with MS in Aug. 1996. I was working at a local grocery store, and I noticed no feeling in the palm of my hands and when I bent my head down that weird tingling feeling went from my neck to my legs and feet. Went to one Neurologist and never did hear back from him. Then things kept getting stranger, so I went to my family Doctor and asked him some questions and he said "NO WAY."  He was afraid I had a brain tumor or something.  Well, had to go back to him cause I started dropping things, so he finally sent me for some tests and to see a Neurologist and BAM!! I did have MS.

The MRI and spinal tap showed for sure. I did not take it very well, nor did my husband. We both just held each other, right there in the doctor's office. But with faith and help, from the Good Lord above, we just take it one day at a time.

I began to have problem after problem and have been put on steroids twice, the last time being the whole month of December 1997; and boy did I blow up (weight) I went from a size 4 to 7 and I was terrified I would lose my husband...silly, I know. Anyway, the treatment did not correct left leg or the fuzzy eye sight.

So, Jan.30,1998, I started the Avonex shots and took 9 of them. I had no luck with that, but am now just taking B-12 vitamins til I go back to the Dr. He wants to start me on another shot, not Betaseron. If I can go on feeling this well for the time being, I don't think I will start another one, unless I absolutely have to. For two years now I have been down most of the time, and since I feel good now, I think I will fight like this for awhile.

I am trying to take it one day at a time, and what happens, happens. It takes love, Faith, and God to get me through each day.  I am no longer able to work. May God Be With You All.
