    Miralax?

Mom's home care nurse suggested she take Miralax to reduce the number of explosions...that even though it's a laxative it can work off-brand I think is the word she used.

Has anyone used Miralax for preventive (as opposed to the colonoscopy prep)?

    Hi Baker298,

Please don't give your poor mother Miralax!!! It is an osmotic laxative that pulls water into the colon. So,that would only make her diarrhea worse. http://www.drugs.com/miralax.html

I'm wondering if what was meant instead was Metamucil? That can be used off-label to treat diarrhea. http://www.everydayhealth.com/drugs/metamucil

    Here's another list for you:

I know it's no fun (had C.diff once). I do hope the Metamucil works for her.

    Good luck!

Hey both OTCs start with a M! Close but not.

Yes, in today's Sunday paper there was a coupon for Metamucil...the copy in the ad made more sense than Miralax which, has been my personal experience, is used to prep for the colonoscopy.

Sorry to hear about the C. diff. Nasty, nasty, nasty bug.

      Grazie for the correction.
