Anyone have leg problems without a spinal lesion??

is it possible to have leg numbness without spinal lesions??

I am new here, but I am interested as to what kind of replies you get, re. your question, because I have the same one! I am having all kinds of legs and arm problems, but yet the MRI doesn't show any lesions. I do know that there is an issue re. the strength of the MRI machine used (in my case, it was the lesser, 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, used). Hang in there, MomOfTwo! Jan.

You can have just brain lesions and have spasticity in your legs, or you may just have a small lesion in your spine that is not yet detectable by MRI.

        About spasticity in general:
        http://www.nationalmssociety.org/abo...ity/index.aspx

        Lesions in brain and/or spine:
        http://neurosurgery.ucla.edu/body.cf...=detail&ref=94

Either way, it is a good idea to have it treated by someone like a physical therapist. They can help stretch you out, show you some stretches, and your physician can add medications to help out. Talk with your neurologist about your spasticity and how much pain you are in. If you are already on medication, there is a possibility to go up on that medication or to add another one. There are several out there as you can see in reference #1. Ask also about the PT reference as they can be very helpful with spasticity.

I hope you feel better really soon!

        Take care

Lisa...thanks for the links...I feel better, knowing that even the lesions in my brain (and not my spine), could also be causing my leg issues...I am not crazy, after all!

Momoftwo...For over three months now, I get heavy legs...especially when I take my dog for his daily a.m. walk. Sometimes, as I have to go up a small incline, I can barely keep moving. I have almost gotten to the point of calling my hubby to come get me, but I have learned, that if I rest for a few minutes, then I can go further...then I rest, then I go, on and on...

I also seem to have issues with spasticity...I feel like I am knock-knee'd...like I can't lift my knees...and they want to 'stay together'...really weird. I think it might be the beginnings of the 'scissoring' affect, that is mentioned in the link Lisa sent, about spasticity.

Then, after being on my feet too long, doing errands and such, my legs and arms, get shaky, and I know it is time to rest. I have to lie down just about every afternoon now, or I will conk out for the evening by 7p.

I think this is what they call a flare (although I am still in limbo), as I have documented when it started, etc. I have a small purse-sized notebook, that I keep daily track of what I eat (I think certain foods make my sx's worse), how I am feeling, and what, if any symptoms, I am experiencing. I think it will help me to summarize my case for the neuro, whenever I see one next.

What are your symptoms, MomOfTwo? Hang in there! Love and Light...Jan.

            Thanks Lisa

            Jan,
Well my journey started November 2013 with left side weakness and some numbness my weakness has left but the month after my right leg started and i thought it was numbness but after reading those links Lisa sent I must be expericing spasticity as well cause I have a lot of tightness and stiffness in my leg, it's making walking up stairs a lil difficult , can't walk far distances either at the moment and i also get that heavy feeling when i begin to get tired.

Havent seen a neuro yet, dont even have an official diagnosis yet, i was just told 85% sure MS.. My mind is just racing and of course im terrified cause i keep thinking of the "what ifs"

              MomTwo (sorry for the abbreviations!)

I hope you have a good neuro...mine is just okay. Keep us posted on your progress. Also...from what I have gleaned, from what others have said here...if any of your symptoms become too intolerable...even if you aren't 'official' yet...you can still ask your neuro, if any medicines, might help you with your worst symptoms...at least temporarily.

Someone else might chime in here, who has more experience in that area. I have been tempted to ask for something for this darn fatigue, but my body is extremely sensitive to the side effects...even at the lowest doseage...so, so far, I am just 'grinning and bearing' it! Hang in there, MomTwo...Love and Light...Jan.

MomTwo...Someone else will have to answer you, re. treatments...I am undiagnosed. I am glad you are getting in soon...and you will Be in my thoughts and prayers. Try not to worry too much beforehand...easier said than done, tho. Let us know what you hear, please. Take care. Love and Light. Jan.

Momoftwoboys - I do not have any spinal lesions. Everything is at the base of my skull top of my spinal cord. I forget what the area is called. And I have a lot of leg problems. So I guess the answer to your question is no.

                      No diagnosis

I had an mri - head and spine back in April. No lesions. At the timeI was have some weakness in my legs and had just gotten over a period of incredible fatigue. At the time the fatigue was my biggest concern. Neuro says he want's to wait till next April and recheck mri. Since then the fatigue has been manageable but the leg pain and weakness has gotten worse - intolerable at times. Often at nights I lay in bed and feel my legs (mostly my calves) cramping. Been seen by 3 docs (two neuros) who say it's ms, just can't confirm yet, but can't make a diagnosis. It is frustrating - but I've come to learn it just has to get worse till it's so bad the office manager can diag me.
