    Advil and Tec?

I had a nasty (knife through head) headache for three days and finally went to the doc. They told me they didn't want to give me anything until I see my neuro next week because they think it's my MS (what did I spend a copay for?) They told me to that 600mg Advil every 4 hours - but that it probably wouldn't help since they think it's neurologic.

I've read in several places that you shouldn't take ibuprofen with Tecfidera ... ?? I have been taking two adult aspirins with no relief. Does anyone know about the Advil/Tec combo?

    Call the Biogen Nurses...

I think you should call the Biogen Nurses - if there is a real contra-indication between Tecfidera and ibuprofen they would know.

Sunshine my heart goes out to you. Do you have history of having had migraines? I have chronic migraines that absolutely nothing but migraine medication will even touch them and sometimes not even those. My doc chose Tec for me for the lack of it's ability to interfere with my twice daily migraine medication and it's lack of causing head issues unlike the other pill form drugs for ms.

My most recent MS attack actually was pain exactly what you are describing however it wasn't all the time and the pain was so severe it actually caused me to vomit when it hit during an examine by a md who was standing in while my md was out of the office. Needless to say MRI was ordered and off to the neuro I went and a month later here I wait to go on Tec.

BTY what they ended up doing is putting me on a twice daily seizure medication to block the pain. In 6 months we will redo the MRI and if ok we will back down the drug and make sure it has gone away.

          I'm sorry to hear that!

I don't remember hearing anything about no Advil with Tec so if you find out that's true, please let us know.

I hope your head is better by now.

I also hope Advil is not contraindicated with Tecfidera. I will be very sad! I've been wondering why they advised pre-medication with aspirin instead of a NSAID. Hm. I originally thought it was because Advil put a heavy strain on the liver, and paired with the Tec strain, it was ill advised to double up. Maybe that's wrong? I'll be talking to them this week sometime, I'd be glad to ask if you have not felt up to making the call.

Hope your headache has gone away. I take Advil everyday, no issues with Tec at all. Good luck and God bless.

I had not heard of this! I, too, rely on Advil and thankfully have found since going off Avonex and on to Tec, I have needed far less often (maybe once per week versus 3-4 times per week).

I just read on an online med site that NSAIDS, Lithium, cancer meds and live vaccines may interact w/ Tec. I would speak to your neuro.

I just talked to a nurse at Caremark - as of right now, Tecfidera has NO medication interactions.

                      Tecfidera and Advil

I have been on Tecfidera for 3 months almost 4 and I take Advil and 81mg of aspirin with no issues. but I have this week been fighting with a flare up I think. because my speech, walking and cognitive is off and major pain in my legs and ankle after being at work for 4 hours on my feet making it hard to walk. is anyone having issues with that?
