Question Thinking of Starting The Process

Mr. Feingold,

I am currently employed but at home attempting to recover from my second flare in 4 months. I was dx'ed in February 2011 and have yet to have a break in symptoms. I have chronic back pain due to a healing lesion, cog fog, fatigue, spacticity, and gait disturbance to name a few. I had my second flare in February 2012 which left me with the gait disturbance and (at this time) a temporary hadicapped placard. My current flare is affecting my left arm. I have had steroid treatments for all flares. I spent the last 3 days in the hospital and the last flare left me out of work for 3 weeks.

I was dx'ed quickly due to a previous MRI in 2006 that showed now demylination. My 2011 MRI showed lesions in the T and C-spine and brain.

Work is becoming very difficult and I am not sure I can fake it anymore. My situation is a little different as I am a Federal Employee and therefore must apply for Disability Retirement and Social Security at the same time.

I am thinking of contacting an attorney to help with all the red tape for both claims and would like your input. My nuero believes the stress of continuing to work will only cause more problems with my disease and that I have tried all alternatives.

Please let me know what you think of my situation and how best to proceed.

Thanks

Hi, jkp79. I agree that you should speak with an attorney to discuss your options and planning for filing for disability. I did write a brief newsletter concerning this issue not too long ago and would be pleased to post it here if you would like.
