Trying Oxybutynin (Ditropan)

Not sure if this is the right board for this, but I have read over so many posts here about bladder problems before. I finally really laid it out for my neuro about how much my bladder issues impede my daily life. He wrote me a prescription for Oxybutynin (Ditropan). I got the rx but after reading the potential side effects, I didn't start taking it.

Drowsy? Blurred vision? Ummm, I have enough of that already!

Finally, about a week ago I decided to give it a try. No increased drowsiness or vision problems. And, it seems to WORK! My husband and I went out for dinner and drinks two nights in a row and I didn't even have to leave the table to use the restroom.

Unheard of! We took a drive out of town and I didn't have to stop anywhere for a bathroom break. Unbelieveable! So, I am finding it pretty exciting. I tried Detrol a few years ago and it did nothing for me.

I do worry about the warnings for overheating/heat stroke, now that it is summer. Has anyone had issues with this?

Any other side effects? I've noticed the dry mouth a bit, and some minor bowel issues/upset. Just wondering about anyone else's experiences with this drug.

The only other drug I'm on is Copaxone.

South7, I love this med! I've been on it for years. I adjust my dosage to fit my symptoms. Sometimes I take just 1/2 pill. They say to not cut the pills, but it works for me. I get the dry mouth but always have gum or hard candy with me. I'm glad it's giving you more freedom. No one wants to plan your outings around bathrooms.

Have you ever noticed any other side effects? Anything with overheating? I already have issues with the heat just due to the MS, but heat stroke doesn't sound like fun either! I'm glad it works for you!

I have been on this medication for two years now, and other than a dry mouth i have no other side effects.

It means i dont need to use the bathroom every 20 minutes like i was before.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with this medication. I also have a problem with frequent urination and have considered trying a medication.

My biggest concern is going from a spastic to flaccid bladder.

I'm on the same med and it does nothing for me Maybe it's the dosage? I take a 5mg pill twice a day.

Have to report that this is still working great, although I haven't been taking it every day because it DOES bother my vision a bit. Blurry (er) dry eyes. I have also been out in the heat and hot sun quite a bit while taking it, with no ill effects. That may just be me though, so use caution. Also, I haven't exercised on it in the heat.
