Tysabri for Secondary- Progressive
Hello Everyone,
I visited one of the big pharmaceutical companies website product pipeline. I was surprise to see Tysabri for secondary progressive MS in the third phase of a clinical trial. Do anyone have in knowledge/information about this clinical trial? i.e. purpose, where trials are conducted, how is it different from Ty-RR. Any comments or feedback is appreciated. Thanks. |

I believe that there IS no difference between Tysabri helping with RRMS or SPMS.
What I DO believe, is that Biogen is looking for a way to extend their monopoly on the drug. The only way to do this, is to put it through a round of "new" clinical trials so that it can be FDA approved for a "new use" (which would be SPMS). That would extend their "holding" of the drug another 7 yrs, before it could be produced generically. I worked clinical research...trust me, this is what biogen is doing. Tysabri is a GOLD MINE and they will not give the drug up with OUT a BIG fight.

I tend to agree with fishead. I was diagnosed with SPMS and started Tysabri immediately. So far so good. I've had 6 infusions and just had clean MRI's. No relapses or major progression.
So it would seem that the formal trials are being conducted for labeling purposes ![]() Kyle

Thanks KyleW, I am thinking about starting Tysabri soon. You said "so far so good" could you please elaborate? I know the drug does not treat symptoms but how does Tysabri make you feel? I get a gut feeling that this drug will be more effective for me than copaxone.

So far, so good means that Tysabri seems to be keeping my MS from progressing. I can't really quantify it, but after the 4th or 5th infusion I started to feel energized following the treatment, had a little more pep in my step. Some users talk about feeling draggy in the days just prior to an infusion; like a battery that's running down and needs recharging. I have not experienced that. I have had no side effects what so ever.
