Talking WalkAide/Bioness needed or NMEC to start

So....I tried out the WalkAide the other day and found it helped with lifting my right leg for movement. I spent about 10 minutes with a brief trial and am planning on "renting" it for a couple weeks. It was set at about .5 out of 10, I believe, and came home to read the threads and read that another individual had their's set at 4! You would have been pulling me off the ceiling if mine had been set that high However, I found after just a short amount of .5 stimulation, I was walking better for a while.

The more I researched the web and TENS, I found the NMEC and began to wonder if this is really what I need. I talked to a pt today that I know quite well, and she said the NMEC is basically for exercising the muscle and creating foot movement by stimulating the nerves. It works on the "on/off" cycle rather than the constant "on" of the TENS unit. This is the "exercise mode" of the Walkaide and L300.

Has anyone had experience with NMEC and did it help? It would be a heck of a lot cheaper, and the pt said she'd be willing to help with proper use and exercises.

Any thoughts or ideas? I all the input I receive at MS World

Smile Walking aids for disabled

Well being a health care specialist I can help you out in this situation.
The selection of a walking aid is surely depends on your needs.
If you need something for both indoor and outdoor use, you should buy a rollator as they are one of the best mobility aid.

And if you need a walking aid for basic use you can opt for a normal walker or a wheel chair.
As i am new to this forum so I am unable to add any urls for you to check out walking aids there.
You can search on google by typing walking aids.
Make sure to check out all the suppliers and sites before buying one in order to get the best.

Thanks and have a nice day

Talking

I tried out both the WalkAide and the Bioness L300. Unfortunately (or lucky for me because I didn't spend the BIG BUCKS for either), neither worked. I have weak hip flexors and not so much dorsiflexors, and so I am going to be getting a new device called the HFAD. It is also MUCH CHEAPER!

Both of the devices are close enough, that I really saw no difference. The WalkAide is almost $2000 cheaper and has less parts, so if I needed one, I would go with it.

I would be hesitant to purchase either device used because both need to be set and adjusted using a computer program. I would make sure there was a therapist or someone else knowledgeable who had the program before I committed money.

Good luck!
