Weightloss Checkin Group: Weighin for 3/29/12

Hi Everyone: My goodness Spring has come in with a roar. Trees and bushes are budding and dandelions are out in force two months ahead of schedule. I wish I had the physical capability to go outside and work in the flower beds. It would be good exercise and help rev up my enthusiasm for weight watching. We cannot hide behind heavy winter clothes so must keep those pounds coming off. I know you can all do it. Again I weigh 113.5 so have stayed the same. I would like to lose a half a pound as a cushion.

Agate, so glad to see you back but am sorry to hear you have been under stress. I hope things will be better soon. Even though you are up a pound you are still within a good range. You have done such a good job overall. Keep the faith.

Poohbar, it sounds like you are doing a good job despite the roids. I just know you will handle the extra appetite without going off the deep end. Good luck with the chocolate covered cherry jelly beans.

Sparky, that’s good that you are down a pound and great that you are half an inch down. You have done a terrific job over the years. I also find this group keeps me in check. I shudder to think where I would be otherwise. Keep up the good work.

Mamabug, you are so steady. Good for you for continuing to inch down. That is great that you lost more in your waist which I know is very important to you. That is a good thing that you have a definite goal to reduce your waist measurement. You are succeeding.

Hunterd, I’m truly sorry that your new diet isn’t yet working for you. Maybe it needs some tweaking. Since you gained an inch in two measurements but stayed the same in the other I will put you down for .5 pound gain. I hope things level out this week.

Audima, good for you for losing a pound. You are now farther into the 120's which is a very good thing. Losing slowly is good practice for the job of maintaining after goal weight is reached. Best ever.

Richchaviv, good for you for losing 2 pounds and congratulations for being in the 200's which means that you are on your way. I just know that you can reach your goal weight with perseverance. Keep up the momentum.

For those who may have an interest in joining our dedicated group, our members each have their own personal methods of weight loss. Some are on Weight Watchers, some on Atkins for example and some just cut calories. I personally lost quite a lot of weight in the beginning using Atkins and then just cut portions while eating everything. The method is not the most important thing, it is staying focused and following the plan.

We post weight loss, gain, stayed the same, from Thursday to Thursday and have been doing so for over eight years. We are truly dedicated to get rid of those pesky pounds and keep them off. You don’t have to state your actual weight. It’s a matter of choice.

Tip for the Week:

Avoid stress. There are many people that when they are in a crisis of stress start to eat what they find in front of them. While dieting, analyze the reasons that make you follow a weight loss solution. Set a goal and combine the diet with forms of exercise that will help you fight the stress: yoga, Pilates for example. Pooh can help you with various exercises.

Weight loss Results for 3/22/12:

Total Loss:

4.2 pounds by four members. Good going. Every bit adds to our grand total for the past nine years. Your loss is encouraging for all of us. You are on the right path. Keep those pounds coming off.

Total Gain:

2.4 pounds by three members. The total gain is a small one. You are to be commended for reporting in. This week will be better. Posting a gain is an important part of the process. It helps one to stay aware and to change the future. Good luck.

Stayed the same:

1 member. As we know, staying the same truly is success, especially for those who are maintaining. Just keep remembering it is the time before the next loss if you have more to lose.

3279.8 is the total weight loss for the past 9 plus years. Now that we have hit 1.5 tons we are on our way to losing two tons.

Body fat percentage -- 25-31% (Acceptable)

For some reason, this was a good weight-loss week. Didn't do anything different than usual. I'm not sure what happened, and, I won't be surprised if it goes up next week, because it is not unusual for me to fluctuate. But, usually if I go down once, I can get back there again. So, this feels good.

Had to go shopping this week. Our spring came early, and we're having 80F days, so I needed some capris to wear. I had a few pair of size 8's that I'd purchased in early fall on clearance that I've been able to wear, but, most of what I wore last summer was size 12's, and they were too big now. I've mostly been in "maintenance" lately (since Sept 2011), so I was surprised that last summer's clothing was too big.

Anyways, I bought a couple of pair of size 6's this week, because even my 8's are somewhat loose and are beginning to require a belt. (I started in a size 22 a year and a half ago! My initial goal was only to get down to a size 12, but at that point, I still had some significant "muffin top", so I just kept going.)

I FOUGHT THE ROIDS

AND THE ROIDS WON!
+1.2 lbs. augh!!! AND i got off of them last friday and wham,
vertigo hit me with a vengence! (ah, cant spell) almost fell out of the pew at church ! stumbled out of church, hope visitors didnt think the preacher's wife was drunk.
found one of my big husky friends and he got me to car safely.

soooo, back on another round with the roids. good so far because I AM NOT taking back that Easter dress!!!!
my DH picked it out and he has a matching dress shirt and tie! i can get in on, but hugs too tight. so i'm staying out of the kitchen esp at night!!!

thanks for letting me rant 2 rounds of roids in such little time is enough to make me crazier!

rich, i pray that you get things settled and are able to manage your stress.
yoga is an easy exercise that helps destress you. there are many free ones available thru many MS sites if you're interested, i can get them to you or just check some of my FIT TIPS in the thread WII EXERCISE CHECKIN GROUP.

take care and God bless ya'll!

Awww, Pooh. Steroids are the worst! The last time that I was on a high dose of steroids (1000mg for 5 days, followed by a taper) was in August/September 2010.

I had just begun my diet in July and had lost 7 ounds in 5 weeks. I was tracking every single calorie diligently, and, continued to eat carefully and track calories while on roids. However, in spite of the fact that I was not eating any more while on steroids than I had while dieting and losing weight, instead of losing weight while dieting, I gained back all 7 pounds during my 5-day course/16 day taper. And, it took me just as long (5 weeks again) to lose the 7 pounds the second time around as it had the first.

Since then, I've been on lower doses of steroids a couple of times (just 80mg), and, I've managed not to gain weight those times.

Don't beat yourself up over weight gain while on steroids. If you are making choices that are as healthy as you can manage, just realize that, when we have MS, some things are temporarily out of our control.

I've lost a pound since the March 22 thread--down to 113 from 114. I still need to get to 112, where I was for a while, and then I hope on down to 108 or so.

Congratulations to everyone who's trying! If we don't succeed today, tomorrow's another day.
