    Gilenya... Now 3 relapse's

    Hello Everyone,
When I was diagnosed in 1999, My Reserve unit Booted me out due to my Symptoms and my Nuero. put me on COPAXONE. That drug was horrible for me and put me in the Hospital.

Then My Nuero. said I need to try something different so he put me on AVONEX. That made me have flu symptoms for 4 to 5 days. I had to take it on friday nights so I could have a couple good days of work.(thursday and friday) Then taking the shot again and starting the whoe thing over. So he took me off of it and desided to try me on Tysabri. I loved it and was on it for 4 years.

Then my Nuero. got nervous. since I was on it for so long and getting PML. So he wanted me to try Gilenya. I had to dry out for 6 months and was on no treatment. That went well, Not relaspe's. Thin I started taking Gilenya in Dec. 2011 and have had 3 flare ups. ( Vision problems in right eye and now I'm feel numb on my right side, from my chest to my foot.)

I'm sorry for taking up so much space but Sometimes I think I need to go UNTREATED! Anyone else experiance this?

Well first of all, a relapse or flare, is defined as new symptoms or significant worsening of old symptoms separated by one month. Since you've only been on Gilenya for a month or so, you can't have had three flares by definition. I think you're just having the normal fluctuations of ms symptoms. Yeah, it sucks anyway.

The dmd's aren't really designed to make you feel better, they slow the progression of the disease, so you might want to give Gilenya a few more months before deciding its a failure.

      RSam95,

I don't pretend to have any sort of expertise, but it possible that since you went 6 months without any dmds your body was using this time to build up to flare up?

Your ms specialist is really best equipped to advise you here. I wouldn't change or quit my medicine without a consultation. Good luck!

I've been on Tysabri for about 3 years and it's worked well for me.I guess my Neuro will decide what to do in the future.

Give Gilenya a chance.6 months is too short of time to label it as a failure.

          Good luck!
          Without hope there's nothing.
