    Lower back pain!!!

I have ms for a little over a year now... I get spasms in my feet, legs and shoulders... Yesterday I woke up with the worst lower back pain... This is a new pain for me.. I never had back issues..... Can this be an
Ms symptom??? Does anyone get back spasms from their ms???

This was going on for me last month. I have ongoing chronic pain in my legs, but I began to have horrible lower back pain. my neuro first sent me for a urine test. needed to rule out infection. then he told me it was my ms.

I'm sorry I cant help with this part! I dont remember what he told me regarding why I had the nerve pain. I also have been having issues of awful aching, mostly in my hands and wrists. So he gave me a script for lyrica. I felt so much better right away.

so my long answer is yes, it could be your ms. good luck!

I had lower back pain this past spring before I knew about my MS. Luckily my GP sent me to physical therapy. I can't tell you how helpful that was.

My past experience with military physical therapy was being sent to one hour of 'back class'. This PT involved a full diagnostic of my range of motion and pain. Then, they started with heat on my lower back along with electrical stimulation. That was followed by massage (don't know the technical term for that, but that's what they did). Then, a series of exercises that I did to strengthen my lower back followed by ice on the back if I wanted. PT sessions lasted 60-90 minutes. My back has been so much better since without medication. And, when I feel it coming back, I can tell that I haven't been doing my back stretching exercises that I learned in PT.

Sorry for you and all going through back pain or ANY pain for that matter.

But do not think everything is MS, even if your doc says so. I thought my leg pains were related to MS for years and so did my docs. Then a tendon popped off my hip just turning over in bed. Finally my orthopedic doc insisted I get an MRI in case it was a pinched nerve only to learn my spine was disintergrating with spinal stenosis. If it gets worse I will lose control of bowel and bladder. I got PT and epidural shots which helps a lot.

See an orthopedic doc to rule in or out MS as the cause.

Hugs and feel better soon~ Jan

I have spasms in my lower, mid and upper back (usually not at the same time ). Zanaflex helps most of the time.

Hope you get some relief soon!

              back pain

That was how I got diagnosed. Cervical back pain and a sister with MS led me down this road.

I have been trying all different combinations of meds with my Neuro, but things are getting bad again. Now I have the lower back pain that makes walking, moving, sitting, standing, walking almost impossible. It has gotten a bit better thru the day today, but I had to call off work.

Called my Neuro this AM (who is terrible about getting back to people) and have heard nothing. I have an appointment with a new doctor for a second opinion, but that is not until March!

Going a bit out of my mind.

Again I reiterate that not ALL pain, spasms are related only to MS if at all. See other specialists, get MRI and gather as much info as possible so its not missed.

In my case it was missed, seeing all the wrong specialists until I saw an orthopedic specialist. He let me wait for MRI, but when I started to get worse with PT, it was time for MRI. Neuro's do not know it all..and often many docs will just RX meds w/o knowing for sure. In my case, it was a near disaster.. I am better now but it was a close call.

Meds I used were RX Diclofenac which really helped, a lumbar wrap with magnets to hold in those spasming muscles, also used wrap around my rib cage when MS Hug was awful. Also used RX Methocarbamol a less drowsy muscle relaxant which abled me to keep working.

                Good luck folks~ Jan

Linnieom, I am so sorry you are having the back pain. I can relate to the lower back pain. I have been having pain in my lower back through my hip for about three weeks. I told my ms specialist when I saw her last wednesday. After examining me she did not think it was ms related but ordered an MRI. She said it may be that I'm putting alot of emphasis on my hip because it hikes when I walk. When I move my leg to walk I get a jabbing, gripping pain. My MRI results should be in now, I think I'll call her today.

Hope you get relief soon. Take good care.

Yoga will help with spasticity and make you feel great! Go to your local YMCA. If you can't afford it, they will give you a fantastic discount. They offer beginning and extra slow yoga. Yoga is truly amazing.
