On the hair thing, I have to admit that I've lost hair off and on over the years (thyroid - never anything like this last round), and the one thing that makes it stop is a steady diet of free range eggs. Odd.

Now here I am 32, dx with MS and my last bout with vision issues left me unable to fix my hair or put on my make up correctly..not to mention me almost breaking my ankle trying to walk in my heeled boots! I imagine I was quite a site... so I went back to my super short easy to fix hair cut, and simplified my make up to just the bare minerals powder and mascara! LOL And I only wear my heels to church and only on 'good' days to work! |

Well, just don't get your hair done on a whim while on a Lyrica high, at the mall. My hair is terrible! It is super curly and layers make it worse. I had spent 10 years growing out all the layers and then I went and flushed that down the toilet in one morning! Now I have layers again, and another 10 years of growing them out.
I really hate what I see in the mirror. I hate my frazzed out hair, I hate my tired-looking face, I hate my floppy boobs, I hate my inflated pot belly, I hate my paper-white skinny legs. Sometimes I think about what's the *one* thing I could do to make myself happier about myself. Maybe a boob lift. Or get them inflated or something. And then I think I'd rather have new carpet. ![]()

Isn't it funny how getting your hair done makes you feel better all over? I can "ride" on that train. My favorite part is getting my hair washed. The lady who cuts my hair always has terrific hair washer people. I can almost fall asleep as she is massaging my head-ohhhhhh it feels great!
I am currently letting me hair grow out some. Generally the rule of thumb for me is my hair has to be long enough to pull back into a ponytail (short though it might be). Right now it is shoulder length and I am liking it a lot. It is easy to fix and stays nice looking for a few days. Then you pull it back into a ponytail and you are set for another day. yea. Since I have read some pretty funny things here, I will admit that years ago, my husband and I would "frost" my long hair. (Remember frosting? Where they pulled your hair through that little shower cap thing on your head with a crochet hook?) Anyway, my hair was so long, that we couldn't afford having it done in a shop. So we bought a kit at the drugstore and did it. It looked pretty good. My husband is an engineer so he was really careful and my frosting turned out very even. When spring arrived, we knew it was time for a touch-up. So we bought the kit again and decided to go a little blonder for the spring/summer. When my husband rinsed my hair and pulled off the cap, he didn't say anything for a few minutes. So I knew something was maybe wrong. I looked in the mirror in the bathroom and saw that I had that awful brassy "hooker on the corner" color of hair. Oh My. I ended up having to go to a stylist and have it colored professionally and cut short. I had no choice since my hair was a sight to behold. Ever since that time, my hubby has not touched any hair color. lydialou |

I work at high end jean store. So I know the meaning of splurge. I haven't been dx fully yet they are still not 100% but they are 99%. So I'm in limbo. I went back to work purposely so I was forced to look good once in awhile. Sometimes doing your hair makeup or wearing a cute outfit makes you feel better. My husband supports me doing things for me such as my hair so I'm lucky in that sense. Do what you need to be happy you have to you deserve it.

Curious about the high-end jean store. What brand of jeans is high end? How much are they? I am genuinely curious to know.

Hi Ladies
I can relate to the hair shedding... I am not on any type of DMD so I think my shedding is hormonal.. I am at that magical age of 51 (will be 52 in about a week) where the body starts to go though this wonderful thing called peri-menopause.
I am not menopausal yet..still having a dang cycle. I have a few issues. Was told I have "mild ms" Feb 2011 - have not accepted it not sure if I ever will. I have sinus issues.. feel a little congested.. face area a bit tight. When my eyes water the tear is a bit sticky - mucus is thick but clear - ENT dr put me on Omnaris.. been taking it for about 10 days no relief. Have tension knots in neck/shoulder - which my neck/shoulders are stiff/tight. Body is a bit stiff/tight. My Neuro put me on 10m Baclofen - 1/2 pill (5mg) 2x a day. I hate taking meds.. I tried it for a day here and there but I may have to break down and stick with it. I do take a small dose of Ativan 1/2 .5 mg - it helps just a wee bit not much. So, to sum it up.. my issues are Weight Loss Sinusitis Peri-menopause Tight/stiffness (the head pressure/tightness and neck/shoulder/side of the neck where the biggest tension knot is is the WORST) And feeling like this.. I still have to get up and go to work every day..aaaggghhh!!! I pray someone can relate to all that I am going through. I really need a buddie to chat with. I am only 51 but some days feel about 90. I have loss a lot of weight within the last few years... I am so self conscious of that and nothing fits - I do not want to buy smaller size clothes it will actually show how small I am.. I have to layer my slacks to I don't look so small and so my clothes can fit a little better. I am trying to hang in there but some days it just gets the best of me. Just need to vent.. it helps to chat with others that understand. Ms. Jay |

Ms. Jay,
I am younger than you, but I've lost a bunch of weight due to meds. Go- now- and get yourself a nice pair of jeans or pants that fit. It won't accentuate how small you are, it will make you feel better because your pants aren't so baggy. I promise! I've been losing weight over the last year and it has been frustrating because just as soon as I get a pair of pants that fit, I lose more and they are baggy again! Most of my clothes look like a sack of potatoes on me. But when I do have clothes that fit me on, I feel soooo much better! And you can wear more layers on top if you want- cardigans and scarves and things that will make you feel more comfortable without being too baggy. Anyway- when I see pics of me w/my baggy clothes, I think it accentuates how much weight I've lost as opposed to when I wear clothes that fit. I'm sure you've had your thyroid checked, but if you haven't recently, you might want to. Weight loss and hair loss are symptoms of thyroid issues. My docs always check my thyroid (since I'm not officially diagnosed, though they are pretty sure its MS) about twice a year to make sure. My thyroid is always fine, but its always good to check.

Oh I miss my heels the most. I sent them off to my dd, so I woulod not have tolook at them in my closet, and i love buying them for her, so I still get to look at them
Never got my hair profesionally colored till a few years ago. Just did not have that knd of money with raising kids....Now, I get hair done every 5 weeks. Dh likes it and does not complain too much about it. He knows that makes me feel good. Nails, only had them done once for dd's wedding, now i do thqt every 3 weeks......Atopped biting them and dh kloves them He does comment on my expensive nils, but I need to feel good about myself again. Many days I feel frumpy too. Never woned sweat pants till I had y qll blqdder out about 3 yrs ago., now some days, I go from pjs to sweat pants. I hate it. Today I went out and am dressed qnd feel good. I know it affects dh too. Went to a wedding a few weeks ago, got dressed nicely, put on makeup and wore small heels. He loved it and commented that i "still got it". Hang in there and remember we all feel that way sometimes, expecially since I do not work anymore and do not go out of the house for days except to wqlk dogs. Wow I hate this but holidays are coming up and my calendar is filling up. Yeah JudySz |
