    Bacoflen

My doctor prescribed me bacoflen my last visit.(10 mil. once every eight hours) I've had the script for for a few months now and due to back spasms I started taking them.
I find that they really don't help. Before I ask my doctor for something else or a stronger does I'm just curious if anybody is taking this med and how much of it do they take and does it work for them.. Thanks

I take 50 to 60 per day spread out through the day. It helps me a lot! I seem to get really tight across my back.

They will most likely tell you to take more baclofen I take one in the morning 1 at noon and 3 before I go to bed and she says this is a low dose. Everytime I say I am having trouble they just add another pill everyday. I see my neuro tomorrow so I will see what he says then.

Have you been taking Baclofen for a few months or did you just start taking it? Baclofen is started at a low dose and increase/decreased very slowly.

It can take awhile to notice, due to the initial low dose, Baclofen is helping and is best taken consistently. However, it is possible, for some, to take Baclofen on an as needed basis.

Your neuro is the best one to advise you about increasing/decreasing your dosage.

I take 2 pills a day...sometimes a half pill, and I have found they help me a lot.

Like everything, they affect people differently. You just might need a stronger dose.

Sorry you are having such back problems/spasms. But I used to blame a lot on MS when I found out I have both neck and lower back issues that contributed to my pain and spasms.

Do not assume everything is MS is my word of advice. I would get a 2nd opinion from an orthopedic specialists just to make sure it is not something else.

My ortho is so good that he'll tell me if it is ortho or neuro. And he's right.

Good luck. I do take Baclofen 4x a day but try not to take it that often. I also do stretching daily. But found out the combo of Baclofen with Diclofenac for my spinal stenosis works well together. So maybe Baclofen alone is not the answer. Again, get your back issue evaluated.

Let us know how you are doing!

            Feel better soon, Jan

I have been taken it on a as needed basis for a few weeks now. I'm pretty sure it is MS related. I have been to an Ortho for some lower back issues ive had in the past. They never found anything structurally wrong. Thank you for your replies...
My Neuro also suggested an IV steroid treatment.

                  Hey Joe!

Baclofen has to build up in your system in order to be effective. I believe you have to take it for about 3 weeks in order for it to start working but don't quote me.

I have bad back spasms as well. Sometimes I can barely walk because of them. I tried Baclofen but did not like the side effects.
Valium 10mg before bed helps me a great deal and better than any other meds I have tried.

There are other meds out there. If you have used the baclofen for a while and it is not working, call your doc. He/She can either increase the dose or try something else.

                  Best Wishes to you!

If you have only been taking Baclofen as needed try taking it on a regular basis before deciding it's not working you need a higher dose or doing steroids.

As needed doesn't work for everyone and many find more benefit from Baclofen when taking it every day at the full prescribed dose.

Steroids have short term and long term serious side effects. The more you use steroids the less effective they become.

For those reasons steroids are not meant to be used for symptom management and are reserved for exacerbations (relapses, attack, flare-up). However, not all exacerbations require steroids.

Baclofen and many other medications are used for symptom management.

Baclofen is a muscle relaxant and is FDA approved for MS in the treatment of Spasticity. Baclofen is quite helpful for many with this disease.

I know you must be overwhelmed at the moment and I know MS sucks. Hang in there
