    EXCERISE

HI....I'M JUST WONDERING HOW TO EXCERISE BUT NOT IN THE WATER.....ANY SUGGESTION WOULD BE HELPFUL

diguilio, since your mobility is restricted, the NMSS may have some suggestions for you. I believe their web site has exercise vidoes for MS, they may be able to help you.

Also, Physical Therapy might be a good place to start. Do you see am Neuro/MS Specialist? If so, your Neuro/MS doc can refer you to a PT specializing in WC MS'ers with limited mobility.

Between the NMSS and/or your MS doc you should be able to find an exercise routine specifically for you, tailored to your abilities.

Best of luck with your exercise routine.

PT is a really good idea. But exercise doesn't have to be a big formal deal. It means that you need to move whatever parts of yourself your able to move and do it for a while every day. Start at your head and neck and go down to your fingers and toes and move everything slowly through as much range of motion as you have several times. Just don't do anything that hurts or puts you off balance. You can start doing that right now without waiting for a PT referral or a DVD.

I like the TV show Sit and Be Fit. Its usually on PBS stations but I think other stations carry it too. You can record the shows or buy programs from the show's website sitandbefit.com. Even the exercises shown standing up have sitting down versions. The name of the show sounds a little wimpy but its really a good routine. Try catching it on TV and see if it works for you. That doesn't cost anything except your time and a little bit of electricity.

PBS Tv also offers "Sit and Be Fit" to follow.

Hope you find something that works for you.
        Don't give up!

There is also yoga for exercise. (My favorite kind of exercise) Chair yoga in particular might be what you want or need. If you google Amazon and put in chair yoga dvd, there is a good list to choose from! Some are reasonably priced. Just another idea!

I agree with MSer102, that any kind of movement is good! You don't have to work up a sweat to gain the benefits of exercise.

Good luck on trying something new!

you can do yoga or tai chi.you may need to start with some range of motion exercises if you are compromised in that area. Your physical therapist can help you with that.
