Corpus Callosum Shrinking

Well, here is something new. I was told Monday that my latest MRI showed my Corpus Callosum is shrinking.

Anybody hear about this before? I will see my Dr. today and I hope he can make sense of it.

I don't know what it means that it's shrinking, but it's the connector between the two hemispheres of the brain.

TomD,
I don't know what you have going on in your brain but I hope your doctor has some advice for you. My only thought is... now that you have that info, maybe there is something you can do to slow or reverse this situation.
I would go the nutrition route. There is a notion that 'brain foods' exist in many forms. Dr. Jelinek, I think, suggests one consumes up to 20 grams of Omega-3's daily. Any foods that increase your intake of these should have some positive effects on your brain. Good luck

I agree with Jerry. It may be the kind of thing where the doctor says there is nothing to do. If so, you should try Dr. Jelenik's recommendations. They're neither harmfully nor expensive and you will have improved health.

Lightbulb Corpus Callosum is shrinking

Here is a link specifically related to MS. You can find that and many more by plugging "Corpus Callosum is shrinking" into a Google search.

Basicly the article dated 18, June, 2012, notes research into using said shrinkage as a predictor of future disability.

My MS neuro is also a university MS researcher, I may ask him about it. IF my cog fog does not fog me in next week.

Shrinking Corpus Callosum Part Two

Hello Everyone,
Well, my PA did not seem very concerned about the fact my Corpus Callosum is shrinking.
My son, who is a RN, said that this discovery helps him to understand why don't remember names of people I have known for years. He told me that I repeat myself several times during our conversations. I had no idea I was doing that. He said this is due, in part to the Corpus Callosum shrinking.
I am thinking of getting another Neuro Dr.
The story goes on.

Hi TomD,

What I believe is meant by 'shrinking' is commonly referred to as Brain Atrophy. Unfortunately, this can be common in MS due to the damage the disease does.

Your PA may not have seemed concerned simply because it is common and there is not much that can be done

I just googled this condition and found an article entitled
"Low B12 Shrinks Your Brain" by Jeffrey Dach MD.

They have some MRI images as well. I guess one more reason to keep the B12 levels UP.

I take 2500 B12 a day subligual (sp?) and it really helps with energy.

Hope this helps some and let us know if you find out anything else. I am interested to know more.

Thanks For The B-12 Infomation

Hi,
Thanks to you for the B-12 information. I take about 20,000mcg daily. Am doing MUCH better. I have regained some energy and feel a bit more alert.
Memory is shot, and the ability to perform executive functions is being effected by the shrinking corpus callosum (I guess that's what causing it).
Anyway, thanks for the information.
