WII EXERCISE & CHECKIN GROUP 05/17/2012

WELCOME MOVERS AND SHAKERS!
I AM ALIVE, JUST VERTIGO IS MESSING WITH BRAIN
FORGOT IT WAS THURSDAY

Sorry, I know that is not very confidence inspiring, but remember we all have MS. This hasn't been a good several weeks for me. If I could get the world to stop spinning around and let me off, I'd be okay!

GOALS MADE:
SEVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOALS MISSED:
THREE

red, you're trying hard and that will pay off.
me, i've been falling off the wii balance board so not much exercise unless you count all the extra weaving walking i'm doing.
dave, you missing one day is understandable since i imagine your fingers have gotten a workout.

HEY! A new exercise to add to our list besides gardening which is an excellent exercise. Perhaps we can add typing. It involves our whole hand, and most of the arm- wonder if anyone has done a study on how many calories you burn while typing?

FIT TIPS FOR THE WEEK:
Ways to Flatten Your Belly by Summer
By*The Editors of Prevention*|*Healthy Living*

Paddle Off Your Belly Pooch*
Kayaking is an exhilarating, ab-crunching workout. Constant paddling requires lots of twisting and tightness from your abs for long periods of time....
not sure how to modify this for you. For those still able to do this, go for it! But nobody drowning on my watch!

Sculpt Your Core While You Walk*
As you go about your day, imagine there's a magnet pulling your belly button back toward your spine. Practice the tuck until it becomes comfortable, and soon this easy ab-engaging move will become like second nature.*This trick works while sitting also.

Stand Tall While Pumping Iron*OR SIT TALL AS APPLICABLE
Stand as much as possible when doing weight-lifting exercises. That way your abs will naturally help to balance and stabilize your body. To add an extra flat belly boost to your weight routine, concentrate on keeping your abs tight and maintaining good posture while you lift, but without holding your breath.*

Hoping all our bellies are getting flatter (no pics though please! with DD pregnant I've seen enough belly lately!)

Keep moving and keep hydrated as weather warms up!
Glad you liked the water mix recipe. It really helped me through steroids, better for you and cheaper than bought flavored water!

Take care and God bless ya!

Exercise is going well. I do notice if I take a couple days off at a time.
I am trying to remember to check in more. Two weeks in a row (woohoo)

Oh Pooh. So sorry to hear about the balance issues. They are truly the worst. For me, that means no exercise of any kind because even sitting is an issue. A couple months ago, my neuro had me try Ampyra. The wobbliness was so devastating that I only took one dose before he said "no more". Hope yours improves soon.

Average steps per day: 3648 steps.
Did a 10 minute walk around the block - 1 day.
Did Wii Fit (strength or yoga) - 3 days
Did some strength training with a weight (legs or arms) - 3 days

Next week's goal: Will try to do some intentional exercise 6x next week.

I have a trip planned to Canada (Winnipeg + a camp for a reunion + Saskatoon + Edmonton) this summer. Many of the people I will be seeing have not seen me since last year (some in May; some in July). In May, I was 133 lbs/37" waist; in July, I was 127 lbs/36" waist. I'd like to get consistently down to a 33" waist or below by the time of the trip, so the difference from last year is more obvious and noticeable.

I am hopeful that, no matter what my weight is, that the exercise might drop some inches. However, I am at the point where I am unsure whether losing inches is a reasonable goal for me.

I updated current "after" photos on my sparkpeople.com (home page) for anyone who wants to see them.

Hi everyone. Pooh, you are incredible. That is amazing that you can keep up with this post when you are having such problems. You are truly brave. Thank you for all of your input. Alas, I can't do any exercises without holding on because I would topple over. I thus must do all exercises while holding on with both hands if standing. This is truly a lousy disease.

I was only partially successful this week. I made the goal of weight lifting and marching in place but I failed at doing my full exercise routine because I only did one out of three. I will set my goal the same this week: full exercise routine three days; marching in place 20 minutes twice per day for six days; weight lifting six days. When I do it all it takes me at least two hours. I don't have time for anything else except eating and sleeping! Blessings to all, Karen

This is the only exercise I did this past week, so didn't make my goal. We did salt water kayaking with somewhat high seas and it was a workout!! We had out of state company for the week and I couldn't go on their long walks and hikes, so kayaking is something I can do!! Other than that, we sat around and laughed and ate!!! Don't think though that the kayaking offset all the eating.

Pooh, I hate vertigo!! Sending you lots of hugs and hope it is resolved soon!

Pining for kayaking

Please, someone, organize a MSers kayaking excursion. Just the thought delights me!

Made my goal this week. Nevertheless, my mental map of my right side is disappearing in spite of all my efforts. I will persevere.

New activity: walk to the mailbox to get the mail accompanied by unruly dog. So far, so good.

Stay lifted,
Mermaid

I seem to be moving in the wrong direction. Last week I was short one day of making goal, and this week I'm short two days of making goal. But, we will keep plugging away! GREAT JOB EVERYONE, whether you may goal or not.

I have the bestest news to tell you all

1. I made goal this week (by a LOT and I do mean a LOT)

2. For 2 days now I feel the best that I have felt in 5/6 years..... I just want to jump around and shout
--- to put it into a way we can all understand I feel like I could actually RUN

I am sorry to everyone for seeming like I am bragging and rubbing it in but I swear I am not meaning to. You guys are my only friends and I also know you guys can understand my excitement more than family can.

That IS the "bestest" news, Red. And, you aren't bragging. You are just celebrating, and I'm willing to celebrate with you. Glad that you had a great week. (If I could run, I would celebrate too.)

Hey there guys .... still smiling....

Seasha the only thing that is different for me is I had just started Ampyra and for me it is actually working so far. I am beyond excited because usually any of the medications I take do not work for me so I put off taking it since it came out but finally I just got so sick of my neuro bugging me about trying it I decided the only way to shut him up was to take it and prove to him it wouldn't work for me..

I guess I will be eating my words

So far this week I have walked so much my legs are starting to become firmer. (not firm but you know what I mean)
