Thumbs up MS Walk Fundraising Ideas

I will be leading a team for MS Walk 2012. Last year, as a 1st year team, my group raised just under $2900, and were the top fundraising rookie team for our chapter.

This year, I would really like to hit the $5k mark, and I'm looking for creative ideas for fundraising. What types of successful events have you experienced or been involved in.

The simpler, the better. I work full-time and have MS. I do have good support, but they are also busy people. I am very interested in any ideas you can shoot my way.

The MS Society has little cards that you can get and ask local stores to sell and post with the person's name on it. The March of Dimes, Cancer Society, Special Olympics, etc. all do this type of fundraiser too. People pay $ 1 and write their name on the card and then the business posts them all on the wall.

You should contact your walk coordinator and ask about these; and also ask the coordinator for any ideas or assistance they can give with fundraising for your team. That's part of what your walk coordinator's job is - to support our fundraising efforts.

Good luck !

Thats really awesome of you!!! How did you get to lead & where do you live? Im searching for some walks to go on My idea is to buy some hemp string or thick string and get some orange beads in a few different designs and sell them also for anywhere from $5-$10 each. you can find some tutorials on how to make the bracelets on google and youtube

This is my first year leading a team so I have no great ideas yet. I am excited about getting started. I hope you reach your goal this year.
Take good care.

I am in Tulsa, OK. I think last year was mostly luck. I have a great group of friends and family that supported me last year, and will continue to do so this year, too. I recruited about 35 people onto my team last year, and all of the funds that were raised came from campaigning my team members did and personal donations from them. I would like to increase my donations without increasing the burden on them.

Great idea for the bracelets/necklaces! I'll look into it. Thanks!

raffles are a good way... if you can not get donations for prizes check your local laws on 50/50 raffles. If you have a blog or a webpage or anything like that and you have a paypal account they take some of the money but you can add the button to different places and people can donate that way too. Offer to have a jersey or a shirt made with local bussinesses on it if they sponser enough to make it worth your while to have it made and still have a good bit for donations.

You should be able to get those orange rubber MS bracelets to sell from the NMSS also. My son is selling them at school through the National Junior Honor Society program. He's made over $ 50 already !

Another idea would be to ask local business to have "Jeans Friday" or "Casual Friday" where employees would pay $ 5 each to wear jeans/casual clothes to work and all of the proceeds would go to your walk. This is an idea I'm going to contact businesses about next year.
