Vitamin B recommendations?

I'm currently taking a Centrum for women multivitamin and wondering if it's doing me any good at all. My hair is still falling out (no idea why but I've lost about 2/3 of my hair since last summer), among other things.

Usually, when I take a B or multi-vitamin, past experience tells me it changes the color of your urine to bright yellow. I've been tested for B12 and it's in the 400 range, but these vitamins don't seem to be having that effect which tells me either it's not getting absorbed completely, or my body is using it all.

So, I was wondering what a better source for this vitamin might be. I did take B supplements in the past and thought they were the reason for my tingling hands so I quit and went with a multi. The tingling went away, and now I'm wondering if it was the vitamin at all.

In either case, what's the best type of B and how much?

Here's a thread from the Archive on the subject:

For more recent posts by Tara on B vitamins, you can do an Advanced Search of this forum. Here's how:

To the best of my knowledge, Tara has never specified an amount. I'd suggest you follow the recommendation on the bottle.

You should never have yellow urine from B vitamins. That said if you do the vit is a synthetic isolate and your urine is yellow because your kidneys have to get rid of the toxins asap.
Sequioa gave my post on Bs. TY Sequioa

Amounts? kinda hard to evaluate. Start with dosage on label, take with bfst and then be sure to have a dosage in the afternoon with a snack. 2x/day for Bs.
Blood tests of Bs are not that great an indication, IMO

I've been taking vitamin code raw B complex - not synthetic and my urine is very yellow. I'm only taking one capsule, which contains 5mg of riboflavin. I don't have kidney issues, so don't understand why the yellow urine? I would try max stress B, but it isn't in my budget. Should I stop taking the vitamin code because of the yellow urine?

Jen,
I also take the Vitamin Code, because it was the best B I could find out there for the price etc. It does not make my urine yellow. The Enzymatic Therapy brand I took before would though.

I have started taking the max stress B (from Tara). No yellow urine, can't tell a difference yet over the Vitamin Code.

Twenty Miles,

Thanks for the info - wonder if I should just stop taking the vitamin code? I really don't feel I can afford the max stress B at this time - maybe I just won't take any B complex.
