Help with pain meds that work - please help... MISERABLE!

When my holistic practitioner said I have MS after some blood work and listening to my symptoms, I was shocked. I had never entertained the idea all my symptoms were related to MS until I started having difficulty walking.

She prescribed about 12 different supplements to help rebuild the myelin. Then I thought, well enough, but what is keeping my body from tearing it back down. And the bone pain, feet burning, itching, and pins & needles... Also in hands... she can't prescribe actual meds.

Went to my primary, who is at a not-for-profit clinic and wonderful... Ordered an MRI after seeing the results of my lab and after asking about something for the pain, he explained he was not allowed to prescribe any "scheduled" drugs. Of course. He put me on Mobic and cymbalta... Which seemed to help with the nerve pain, but not the deep bone pain that keeps me from walking.

I had gotten norco after going to their ER after this episode... I didn't know what the hell was going on. The norco didn't seem to help much, nor did any of NSAIDS.

Can anyone suggest what has worked for the bone pain?? That way I can ask the specialist. Morphine has never worked well for any pain. Anyone have the same issue with morphine?? I always thought there was something funky with my brain chemistry because of my lack of response to morphine or related drugs. I read something somewhere about methadone, but don't know if that is an alternative. Suggestions greatly appreciated!! Thanx!

    Pain control

Pain control was probably one of my biggest issues other than getting a diagnosis.

Trying to get the doctors to believe I was in pain and not looking for a high was creating lots of problems for me. I tried all the combinations you mentioned: anti-depressants, anti-seizure, etc. and nothing worked. I was in constant pain in my legs, right arm and neck and felt overly sedated all the time.

The morphine and its derivatives worked but wore off so quickly. Finally I was referred to a pain specialist. She suggested a pain patch which lasts for 3 days. This was Duragesic/Fentanyl. (This drug in the oral form is being abused in the drug scene right now but it was a life saver for me.)

This is a really strong drug but it seemed like once I was able to get on top of the pain I could use less of this medication to control the pain. My family noticed a big difference in me almost immediately.

I still deal with all the other MS symptoms but the pain seems to be under control, at least for now.

Try to see a pain specialist.

Hoping for a good outcome for you.

I do not know if it works for bone pain, but I can VOUCH for Lyrica for pain that I had in my Calf muscles. I know that Lyrica is used for both diabetes and MS. I hope you find something that works for you, please keep us up to date.

        Thanks

I anticipate that I will be referred to pain management, but all these take time to get into to see. It is a shame that those few (in comparison to the general pop) have made it so difficult for those of us who really need pain meds to get them and have to suffer.

We go to the doc or ER and don't 'look' sick and are automatically labeled a drug seeker... Esp when their test are all negative. Thanks for the suggestions.... at least something I can ask about that has been helpful for others with MS.

Unfortunately research does not support opiates as effective for treating long term pain.

Hopefully people with legit conditions like MS will get some leeway but based on the changing climate for prescribers I would expect things to get even more strict and would recommend anyone relying solely on opiates for pain control to start exploring other options now.

              NUBAIN NALBUPHINE

Hello Nubain or Nalbuphine has been around since the seventies. It is NOT a narcotic. It is given to pregnant women during birth. It works better for women (I am a man it works great). It does NOT get you high. It is the ONLY drug in its class. It is NOT a scheduled drug. It is ONLY in shot form. It will block your opiate receptors. Opiate addicts hate it. Doctors do not know much about this drug. It works GREAT for pain. Your GP can prescribe it. My pain doc told me "if people could do shots he would have everyone on nubain". Opiates suck! Don't believe people who say it's a narcotic, its NOT scheduled. It's an agonist / antagonist. Please ask me any questions at all about nubain. I preach the miracle of nubain every chance I get. Sorry for your pains.
