Gilenya's effect on your immune system?

Tomorrow morning I meet with my MS specialist to finally decide for sure if I stay on Tecfidera or switch to Gilenya. I had been leaning toward Gilenya but now I'm torn because my Tec side effects have been lower recently (they've been somewhat intermittent over 2 years though).

My biggest hesitation with Gilenya is possibly lowering my immune system, which is already low. I've been sick a lot this fall already. I'd love to hear from Gilenya users on how it's affected your frequency, severity or duration of getting sick.
2001: 1st 2 relapses, "probable MS." 2007: 3rd relapse. Dx of RRMS confirmed by MS specialist. Started Cpx. (Off Cpx Feb 08-Mar 09 to start a family; twins!) Dec '09: Started Beta. Oct '13: Started Tecfidera. May '15: Considering Gilenya.

Hope, I am at the same fork in the road as you. I completed all Gilenya screening tests last week and am meeting with my Neuro on Monday to determine if I should switch from Tecfidera to Gilenya.

I have thrown myself a big curve ball, however. I know that I do not want to take Gilenya. I do not want to stay on Tecfidera either, nor go back Rebif. I do not want take any of these immuno-modulators any longer at all because after 10 years of being on them, and feeling increasingly worse, I do not think that MS is an auto-immune disease at all. I don't even know if I believe all this auto-immune talk anyway. Or even if I really have MS. (!)

I am going to start a new thread about the rest of this, because I want to see what others think about going off meds entirely!

      Gilenya

For me, my WBC is extremely low. In fact, I was instructed today to take a month off of gilenya due to super low wbc (1.46) and elevated liver enzymes.

To answer your question though, I haven't gotten sick much since being on gilenya. I think I had a cold once.

      Good luck to you!
