This is a correction to my previous post. SSI recipients cannot get Medicare like SSDI recipients. They get Medicaid, in some states it's automatic and in others you have to apply separately.

Private health insurance, down here, just means paying $60 for a doctor visit, or $300 for a specialist. Otherwise, form an orderly queue.
