drop foot and the need for permanent night splints

After another exacerbation, and 3 months in the hospital, nursing homes and acute rehab, I received night splints for both feet. I soon had to realize that I will have to wear those permanently or otherwise my feet/ ankles/ legs will spasm and keep me awake all night. It seems that none of those boots that I have tried, last very long-the sole provides insufficient support when I transfer from the bed to the wheelchair to the toilet at night; the shaft widens; they are very warm at night; they last from as little as 1 month to 8 months with multiple repairs in-between.
I need to find a permanent solution and I would like to hear from other people with drop-foot, what they are doing, what works for them. I can not be the only desperate person looking for a permanent solution!
