    NOT MS

Went to a new Dr. He came in and said 'I am 95 percent sure that you do not have ms! It has been 12 years I believe that I ms. He said that lesions on my brain & spine are from me being a premature baby. I have all the symptoms of ms. He has taken me off all meds. He has know idea what is wrong with me. Any thoughts?

Hi rzoucha- Is this Dr an MS specialist?
If not, you might want to search for one and get yet another opinion.

      See another doctor

When I was diagnosed ten years ago, I went to four neurologists for their opinions- all confirmed I had MS.

        second opinion

I'd agree....get a second opinion. Also make sure that the doctor that you see is an MS Specialist Neurologist.

You mention that it has been 12 years. Do you have MRI records going back that time? Has there been a change in the lesions (amount, locations, size). If so that cannot be from your being pre-mature....?

        Good luck...

Well, yay, he says it's not MS, but what does he think you might have?
As you said, any suggestions, doctor?

Maybe you don't. That would be a welcomed surprise for me - "You walk so poorly cause you buy shoes a size too small", "You're always tired cause you need to take iron"...

Seriously, who diagnosed you? An MS specialist? Who's been treating you all these years? What does "I have all the symptoms for MS" mean? That's what the diagnosing Dr said? Have you had any attacks over the past 12 years or you started out with all the symptoms? Not likely.

You must go to an MS specialist (preferably in an MS center). Go for a second opinion to get to the bottom of this. I don't think anyone here can tell you if you do or don't have MS.

MS is a progressive disease, even with treatment. If you mean that nothing has changed on your MRIs over 12 years, then it's possible that your condition is not MS, even though you have believed that it is.

Sometimes it takes the passage of time to more clearly illuminate what a condition is and what it isn't.

You have one neurologist's opinion at the 12-year mark. With no changes on your MRI, it sounds like it's time for another opinion. And it should be from an MS specialist, not just a general neurologist.

The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) recognizes two MS centers in Nebraska. Both should be good places to go for another opinion.

To find those centers, go to the website of the CMSC at www.mscare.org. On the left side of the page, click Directories then MS Centers. Enter your country and state, and information for those centers will come up. Good luck!

Are you SURE that you have been seen by an MS 'specialist'? If you have seen general neurologists, they could be missing 'something'. Until you consult with an MS 'specialist', you shouldn't consider an opinion from a 'general' practice neuro as the 'best' opinion. NOT saying that the general neuro is uninformed. IMO the 'specialist' is trained to recognize all of the quirks that is MS. Good luck
