Weightloss Checkin Group: Weighin for 7/30/15

Hi Everyone. One thing I do not mention often but is very important and should be addressed. That is the importance of exercise. Exercise can take many forms from walking to doing traditional exercises as we know them. It is too bad we no longer have the exercise group. One thing that was often mentioned is the use of the Wii which can be fun as well as healthful. Consider walking rather than using an elevator or escalator. When sitting stretch arms and legs. There is always marching in place for up to 20 minutes. Yoga is wonderful for mind and body. Be creative in daily activities and use extra movements to do routine tasks. I continue to do exercises from my last physical therapy sessions. I know it has helped me greatly. Good luck in getting in the groove.

I am happy to say I lost a pound so now weigh 114.5. I will try my best not to gain while my granddaughter is here.

Agate, That is excellent that you did not gain. I like your idea of imagining your graph going down. Keep the good thought and it is sure to happen. Keep it up.

Mamabug, that is unfortunate about your gain but your plans sound really sound. Skimping on your medium days sounds like a good idea and tracking your calories is also a good strategy. I know you know what is best for you. Good luck.

Hsmaldo, I do hope you are well. Do let us know.

Malaholic, sorry to miss you again this week. Hope to hear from you soon.

Poohb3ar, I hope all is well with you. I hope drop by before long.

Portia, that is terrific. You have broken the 160 barrier. I hope you can keep up the momentum as you work your way toward your goal. Keep up the good work.

Msgijo, so sorry to miss you again this week. I do hope all is well.

For those who may have an interest in joining our dedicated group, our members each have their own personal methods of weight loss. Some are on Weight Watchers, some on Atkins for example and some just cut calories. I personally lost quite a lot of weight in the beginning using Atkins and then just cut portions while eating everything. The method is not the most important thing, it is staying focused and following the plan.
We post weight loss, gain, stayed the same, from Thursday to Thursday and have been doing so for thirteen years. We are truly dedicated to get rid of those pesky pounds and keep them off. You don’t have to state your actual weight. It’s a matter of choice.

    Tip For The Week:

Roberts' advice: Allow 100 calories a day of your favorite food. Just don't eat that goodie by itself. Roberts suggests “sandwiching” the treat between two low-calorie fillers. For example, if you’re craving a cookie, have a half cup of strawberries, then eat the cookie, followed by a cup of tea.

A caveat. That will work for many people but one has to know one’s own impulses. That one cookie can lead to more despite one’s good intentions. Use your own best judgement with the above suggestion.

    Weight loss Results for 7-23-15:

    Total Loss:

1.8 pounds by one member. It is good to have an inspiration for the week. Once again, losses prove that it can be done. Keep good thoughts for the coming week.

    Total Gain:

1.7 pounds by two members. Posting gains is truly worthwhile. It is a sign that the process of losing weight is being taken seriously. It is a warning to others that gains can happen. Thanks for posting.

    Stayed the same:

1 member. As we know, staying the same truly is success, especially for those who are maintaining. Just keep remembering it is the time before the next loss if you have more to lose. Also staying the same is a signal that you are eating the right amount to maintain your losses.

3735.1 is the total weight loss for the past 13 years. We have hit a new milestone. We now have less than 275 pounds to reach two tons. That is truly awesome.

Hi Karen. Congrats on the pound loss. Grands are too easy to spoil with all of their fav 'treats', but we all know that teaching them to eat healthy is really more loving (even if they don't agree). Maybe spoil her a little by getting her to help you fix nutritious meals. If nothing else maybe the extra exercise will help you keep from any gains .

I hate to do this, but I am going to quit this weight thing for a while. Something is definitely wrong, and my weight is kinda the least of my worries right now. I am back up to where I was a month ago (weighed 138.5 earlier today) and I honestly don't understand how. For the past 3 weeks I have had terrible diarrhea and cramps - all day every day - and I am SO bloated. Last week I started having a touch of nausea by the end of the days. What little I have been eating (soup and a few crackers) is not staying in me long enough to cause any weigh gains at all.
I called to make an appointment with a gastro earlier this week and was told that they would let me know next week if he would take me as a new patient and that the earliest that they saw for appointments (assuming that he would see me) would be the middle of next month .

Wishing everyone continued success until I get back!

msgijo, I'm so sorry to hear of your problems. I can't imagine you having to wait so long to see the gastro. I hope you can get in soon and get back to normal. It is no fun being sick. As if MS weren't enough!

Thank you for your suggestion with respect to my granddaughter. I'm sure we will have a wonderful time.

I'm sorry we won't be hearing from you for awhile but you will be in my thoughts. I'm sure you know what's best for you. I hope you will drop in once in awhile and let us know how you are.

      Best wishes,

      Karen

        Lost 1.4 lbs

        4/23: 136.4 lbs
        4/30: 135.8 lbs
        5/07: 134.8 lbs
        5/14: 131.4 lbs
        5/21: 130.4 lbs
        5/28: 130.4 lbs
        6/04: 129.2 lbs
        6/11: 130.0 lbs
        6/18: 129.2 lbs
        6/25: 128.8 lbs (Left on vacation 6/25; returned 7/11)
        7/16: 129.6 lbs
        7/23: 130.8 lbs
        7/30: 129.4 lbs

Yay! Going in the right direction. Vacation threw me off, and then I couldn't seem to resume my pre-vacation pattern of losing after I returned.

I did track calories for two days, and chose to make them both very skimpy days (in the 700 - 900 calorie range) and that got it moving down again.

I'll need to eat carefully for the next two days. A friend's daughter is getting married tomorrow, and we're attending that event and the rehearsal dinner this evening, so I'll Have to be attentive to calories these events.

I'm back in the 120's and aiming for 121 or 122.

msgijo, I hope there will be an easy fix for your problems, and the sooner the better. MS takes so much away--but at least most of us (not all, unfortunately) can still eat, sometimes to the point of overdoing. To have even eating ruined by illness is miserable.

I've been staying at 116 and glad not to have gained.

A long hot spell like the one we've been having here takes away my appetite but when it cools off I seem to make up for it. I'm so glad that it's cool again that I start eating to celebrate.

Agate thank you. The doctor's office called this morning and set up an appt. for the 14th. I suppose that is pretty quick for a new patient w/o a referral to see a specialist.
Of course yesterday and today have been slightly better, but I am going to see the doctor!
One more week to go .

Looks like everyone is doing well with their weight loss / maintenance .

msgijo, I'm concerned. A person can get severely dehydrated with diarrhea. I hope that at least you're able to keep up your fluid intake.

Have you thought about asking the doctor's office to notify you of any cancellations before your appointment date?

                  Thanks again agate.
A warning to keep hydrated was the ONE piece of advice that I received on the first call to the doctor . Since my mouth stays dry I always have something to drink near me. I did switch from tea (decaf) to just ice water ...

As always when you are going to the doctor, the sx's have gotten better. NOT all day now, but still every day . And I am still gaining weight. I had a neuro appt last Friday and weighed in at 141.7 .

I am SO dreading all the testing that I am sure is coming, but hopefully this will be something "fixable" .
