    update : need answer please

See my post below: (need answer please)

Well, I spent one night in the hospital all hooked up to eeg, heart monitor, iv (just in case). I had 2 "events" that didn't show up on eeg so these events are not seizures (thankfully) but back to square one. They sent me home because they said they feel they had enough info from the one night study being that I experienced the "event's" but they didn't show up on the eeg. So they (seizure specialist in consultation with my ms dr) decided to up the tegretol to 600mg 2x / day (total 1200mg /day). If I begin to have the events still, then they will take me off the tegretol because it would appear that it is not helping. They look at other avenues. Well, the pattern has been that the upped dosage works for a week or two, then I start to have these episodes again. So since starting this new dose, it's been 2 days and so far so good. But I'm not confident it will remain good based on past experiience. Jreagan had some very insightful and knowledgable info. I'm going to reread what he/she said (are you in the medical field??) and see what i can suggest to dr. Thank you al for the advice and feedback you gave me on previous post.

April: It took quite some time for my EEG to show up as abnormal or seizure activity even though I was having them for a couple of years before hand. I was on neurontin, but it did nothing for my seizures...well it may have made them further between. It was not until they put me on Keppra that my seizures stopped.

Sometimes it is a trial and error situation, which it sounds like they are doing with you. gabepentin is an old drug, there are many newer ones that can be used. I would talk with my neurologist about this.

Good luck and hopefully the higher dosage works.

    take care

      Hi Lisa,
Thank you for your response. if you don't mind my asking, what did your seizures "look" like? Not all seizures are all out convulsive episodes obviously, right?
I read your other post. How are you doing? My heart goes out to you. I hope you have family near by to support you.
