Help finding a Doctor Western KY

    Hi...

I am in desperate need to find a doctor who is not only knowledgeable, but takes time to listen and not just talk. Also, can keep the same staff for longer than 6 months!

Currently, have to drive 2 hours, which is not bad, but is getting more difficult to manage each time we go. I think my doctor is very knowledgeable about MS and does MS studies with various new drugs. However, when I leave and feel just as awful as I did before seeing him I feel like we wasted the entire day!

The last time I went, the Doctor didn't do any testing even though I had had two relapses since seeing him and was still having a lot of trouble...all he had to do was watch me walk and he would have seen I was having trouble.

The only thing he did was tell me he wanted me to go back on Copaxone even though I have tried it twice! I have also been on Avonex, Gilenya, and Tysabri. I wanted to try Lemtrada, but he said because I live in KY and he is in TN, my medicare/ Medicaid would not cover the cost.

Whenever I call his office for questions, it takes days for them to return my calls IF they return my calls. I called on a Friday to talk with the nurse. The following Monday....she no longer worked there! That has happened more than once.

I am tired of having to start over with new people every single time I go.

I was dx by this doctor back in 2005 and hate the idea of having to switch doctors, but I don't feel like I am getting the best care. I am only getting worse and already can't do things that I could do 5 years ago.

Question 1. Would you switch doctors?

Question 2. Who would you recommend in KY?

I read an old post that mentioned Dr. Cox in Owensboro.

Does anyone go to the Norton Center in Louisville?

What about the MS center in Lexington?

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions!

    I appreciate your input.

    Have a great week! 😊

    Hi havefaith and welcome!

If you feel that you're not getting the best care after these 5 years, shopping around sounds like a logical thing to do. I don't live in your state, but this link from the NMSS is helpful for finding an MS Specialist in your area http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Tre...ers-in-MS-Care

I hope this will be of help to you and hopefully, someone else from your state can offer up some suggestions, as word of mouth can sometimes be more beneficial.

Good luck with your search and again, welcome!!
