    Tysabri and Joint Problems

Has anyone had problems with their joints while taking Tysabri? I'm not talking about transient joint pain, which I know is a reported side effect of the infusions, but joint laxity or joint swelling/pain/degeneration?

In the past few years, I've had: 1) S-I joint laxity which caused pain, and 2) sudden, acute effusion of one knee. Neither was preceded by any trauma, pain, or stiffness, like you'd expect from osteoarthritis.

Both have been treated by my docs as sports-related or age-related osteoarthritis, but I'm not so sure. On MRI/X-ray, my knee shows only very subtle age-related wear-and-tear for someone of my age, and it just went from normal to swollen and immobile practically overnight.

I've been to four docs about my knee (and will see a rheumatologist soon), but wanted to see if others have had any problems like this, possibly due to Tysabri. The possible options seem to be an infectious arthritis such as Lyme or an immune-moderated arthritis such as RA.

Yes...I too am having issues with joints and muscles. At times a very low grade fever (under 99.5). Same thing happened for a few months last year.

Tysabri can indeed cause all of this. But so can other drugs. So can other diseases. I am actually in the process of eliminating other drugs I take to see if its something else.

My biggest concern is RA. Several of my cousins have it. One has Lupus. Last thing I need is another disease on top of MS...or anymore docs appointments. I think it would be the final straw for me.

For now, I am just trying to wait it out and hope it goes away. Lord I hope it just goes away.

I woke up two years ago this coming July with right knee pain that stopped my daily walks instantly. That is after 15 years of running, and 30 years of daily 2 mile walks. The x-rays taken at the time showed my knees were normal. I went into physical therapy that improved the knee and removed tha pain, but I found myself suddenly relegated to using an electric scooter and two rollators.

In January, we put in a therapy pool with a treadmill, and I immediately started jogging. After several months, I found myself once again in pain. I went to an orthopedic specialist, and after 6 digital x-rays, I was diagnosed with definitive osterarthritis. A shot of cortisone to knee, and I was good to go. RA and osteoarthritis run in my family, and with my history of running and walking I, honestly, wasn't surprised. I'm 63, so the time frame is realistic. I'm back to arthritis rehab on my knee, and I'm adding glucosamine to my diet to see if I can avoid any more cortisone. However, it is there is I need it, 4 times a year.

June will be my 6th anniversary, 65 infusions, on Tysabri. In no way do I think Tysabri is responsible for my knee issues.
