Ups and Downs During a Relapse?

Has anyone had ups and downs during a relapse? By this I mean a symptom has flared up (i.e. ON with blurred vision but it can be any symptom) and you find your vision getting less blurry where you think you're recovering, only to find the next day its getting worse again and then finally it starts to improve?

Hello fatigued and welcome to MSWorld.

I have not had the ups and downs during an exacerbation (relapse, attack, flare-up) that you are describing. When my exacerbation starts to improve it is a slow improvement and I don't go back to getting worse.

    Hope you relapse resolves soon.

My experience is similar to Snoopy's. I don't improve and then get worse during a relapse. You may wish to contact your doctor and ask about this; it sounds somewhat unusual and might be something they would want to be aware of, in order to determine how to continue to treat you.

Ok thanks for the responses. So you guys have never had a symptom seem like it could be improving only for it to get worse before it properly resolves?

Say you had a numb leg and it started to ease a bit but then it got a bit worse before finally easing up to the point where no more numbess is present?

Looking back to the exacerbations that I have experienced I cannot remember them starting to improve then getting worse then improving. It was simply a slow improvement.

If you use steroids it is possible for symptoms to get worse before getting better.

I saw my new neuro today. (She MIGHT be my new neuro... not sure yet). She asked me about relapses and I cannot say if I've ever had any for sure. I have always had daily symptoms and a stead worsening. She feels that I have entered the secondary progressive phase and would like me to see a MS specialist. The closest one is in St. Louis.... a long way from here. I feel that at 65 I'm not going to start over with any new doctors, tests etc. She did run some blood work to check my iron and something else. About the only thing I might do now is try some new meds for pain and fatigue. I'm ok. Not comfortable, but ok. If you remember by last neuro (still my neuro as of now) told me my MS had "burned itself out". This doctor did NOT use any terms like that or suggest anything like this.

Anyway, there have been times I really believed I was in a relapse but didn't run to the doctor to confirm it. But for the most part it's been every day, on and on, more pain and more pain etc. But.... I'm ok.

I have never experienced improvement, followed by worsening the next day during a relapse. I know that sometimes, if overly tired and try to push thru it, I get a temporary worsening of symptoms. Any chance that when you felt better, you had more activity and fatigue is contributing?
