    Looking for a NY Neuro

    Looking for a NY Neuro

Not for me (I don't live in the US). I just "met" a young woman ("met" cause we're on a forum about something totally diff) and she's almost sure she has MS. She went to a neuro 2 years ago when she had a flare (don't know what), and now she's having a second flare which is convincing her it is MS.

I said she should find an MS neuro, preferably in an MS center, some hospitals have. Now where I live, Israel, that's how it works. But I don't know if that's how it is in NY (is that how it works?) I told her I'd find her a neuro.

Is anyone here from NY? (I don't really want to send her to this forum yet cause this forum is a little scary. Face it - No one ever posts "I have MS 10 years and I have a full time job and I'm Supermom too" - People like that don't post on forums like this
    Dx 1/86 at age 23
Copaxone 1993 - 2011 (except when I was pregnant or nursing)
    Tysabri - 2011 - present

Well, I've had MS for 9 years, and I have a full-time job, but I'm not a mom.

Assuming you're looking for New York City, we have several MS centers here. I go see Dr. Susan Gauthier at Weill Cornell's MS Center and like her a lot. Another popular doctor there is Nancy Nealon.

The MS Center at Mt. Sinai is also supposed to be very good -- it's run by Dr. Fred Lublin who is quite famous (in a good way).

Good luck to your friend. An MS Center is the best place to rule in or rule out MS.

      Geez, DonnaD,
Your advice to your 'friend' is spot on. 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained'. I see that you are looking for an MS neurologist in NY. New York is a big place. New York City or Albany? Can you be more specific? It would be nice if this site created a list of MS specialists by city and state as a permanent resource.

I'm almost positive she meant NY City but she probably lives in one of the boroughs not Manhattan. I'll send her Special Kay's info and anything anyone else posts

If your friend needs to see an MS specialist in NYC, that shouldn't be difficult. There are MS Clinics in several of the hospitals, there. I would begin with Columbia and New York University Hospital Medical Centers. Good luck

thanks. I gave it to her.

Anyone else have personal recommendations in NY (city, not state?)

Question - Will it take a long time to get an appointment?

Depends on the doctor and sometimes initial appointments take longer and so are harder to schedule. But I've lived in NYC for a long time and I have never had to wait very long to see any of my doctors, compared to friends and family who live elsewhere.

(The notable exception to this seems to be mammograms, which you have to schedule months in advance here.)
