    Reaching out for assistance

    Hello,

My name is Brigitte. I was diagnosed with MS in spring of '96. My hobby is writing, and that's part of what I do to keep my spirits up, and away from the truth: This has effected me, I can't even move without my scooter. I am in the process of trying to get a 4-wheeled scooter, but there is no place that will accept Medicare insurance. I see so many people at MS conventions who have them. The mobility companies that accept Medicare will only insure a 3-wheeled scooter. Do they know that a 3-wheeled scooter can easily tip over depending on the surface you're riding on. I know, I've tipped over so many times, I get a little nervous about where I go on one. What upsets me most is that these are ABLE BODIED people making a decision about what is "best" for me. Even if it's the federal government making the rules, how do they know? I haven't seen anyone in a position to say yes or no sitting in a wheelchair, scooter or any other mobility aids to get around. Okay, I'm not going to go on a rant about that, I just wanted to introduce myself. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear it.

    Welcome to MSWorld, qnbeee!

Just wanted to let you know it's perfectly Ok to rant all you want here. We've all had our share! You might want to check out this site from the NMSS about applying for financial assistance for durable equipment.

You may also want to get in touch with your local chapter of the NMSS and ask around.

Good luck to you and hope you find help in getting what you need. Take care and safe riding ahead
