    Relapse?

For the past 3 or 4 weeks I find it very hard to hold my arms up to brush my hair, my legs are week just walking around work, upper back feels like my muscles are tight on my ribs......
I guess I should say I was DX 2yrs ago with RRM. Does this sound like a flare?

Anita if these symptoms are continuous and have lasted greater than 24 hours, then yes they could be due to a relapse. Contact your neurologist if they are and see what he/she wants to do about it.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Take care

Generally a relapse is defined as the onset of new, or the worsening of existing, symptoms lasting at least 24 hours (some neurologists require 48 hours) in the absence of fever or infection.

If your weakness was new or worsening then you could be having a relapse. Definitely worse calling your neurologist to see what he or she wants to do about it.

Also, the next time you have the onset or worsening of symptoms that might be a relapse it's a good idea to inform your neurologist about it sooner rather than later. For a relapse that's bad enough that it affects daily activities and might benefit from high dose steroids to try to shorten the length of the flare, the general opinion is that the steroids should be started within 2 weeks of the onset of the symptoms. After 2 weeks a lot of neurologists won't treat the flare because the damage has already been done and the steroids will probably do more harm than good.

Plus it doesn't make sense to let weeks go by and then try to shorten the flare. By then it's too late. So it can pay to speak up as soon as you think you might be having a flare.

        Thank You

Thanks guys I am very bad about trying to make it through things, I think it is because I have always been the Tough one and always have been the one to tell my kids no matter how bad you feel you have to try to make it to work....
It could be my way of feeling this thing is NOT going to get me down, when in fact it has slowed me down....just hard to accept....Thank you so much for your advise... I am kinda new to this flare thing... and really not sure what a flair consist of, so all advise is very welcome... and again Thank you.

Have you paid a visit to your GP or MS specialist? A recurrence of your symptoms could be due to a secondary cause, such as an infection, so your GP must identify what's causing the relapse before they treat it.
